One day before he was suspended for Tennessee’s 27-6 loss last week at South Carolina, Knoxville police issued five citations to Tennessee cornerback Brent Vinson, including citations for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and an open container violation.
Around 10 p.m. on Oct. 29, police pulled over a vehicle driven by Vinson for speeding on Gallaher View Road in West Knoxville. Vinson did not have his driver’s license with him, and after police asked him to step out of the vehicle, they discovered a plastic bag containing marijuana in his right shoe. Police also found an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, KPD spokesman Darrell DeBusk said.
Police also issued Vinson, 21, citations for speeding, driving without a license and driving without insurance.
He was released from the scene after being cited.
After practice the following day, UT coach Phillip Fulmer announced he had suspended Vinson for the South Carolina game.
Fulmer said Tuesday that Vinson’s suspension has been lifted, and the sophomore will be available for Saturday’s 1 p.m. homecoming game against Wyoming. Vinson practiced with the team Tuesday afternoon.
“He served his little punishment there,” Fulmer said. “He’ll be back for us.”
Vinson, who started 10 games last season, served an academic-related suspension for UT’s season-opener at UCLA on Sept. 1.

Hmmm. Believe ol' Phil very justified.

Maybe if discipline, accountability, and expectations existed, things could have been different. Inmates running
the asylum. Over time, I believe this will be the story.

You would have thought after his buddy Duke Crews was released that he would have got the memo. I guess not.

STHU!!
This happens at every school. No coach is immune to this stuff. You do the best you can and deal with it when it happens.
That said, no reason Fulmer should keep suspension, now. Adams can't write anymore articles about him. Play them all!!
HonoluluVol writes:
What he should get kicked off the team. That behavior is unexceptable. You have to grow up and be accountable for your actions, but obviously this no accountability.
NoogaVol55 writes:
I wonder if it was Colquitte's open container
HonoluluVol writes:
If the kids see there's no reprocussions for there actions, they have no reason to act like adults. But, if they knew they would lose their scolarship on any such offense, I think they would think first. And those that don't should be released anyway.

We need to start the healing. Coach Fulmer did what he thought best to move us in the healing direction. If all respect him as much as they say we will start the healing now !!! I think this was the right decision. Lets all move forward and remember we are all Volunteers. GO VOLS!!!!!
calvolfromkingsport writes:
Play him, what the heck!
ctexorange writes:
Yep this happens at every school. Ricky Williams was caught running naked in a backyard in Austin his senior year. He forgot where he put his clothes. He got laughed at - no suspension. It depends on who you are and if you will someday play on Sunday or become a conservative repulican on whether the crime is punishable by a suspension. Right George W.???

I can remember when coach Fulmer FINALLY kicked James Banks off the team he said he didn't think that coach Fulmer would kick him off the team....

Let's see, hmmmm, 5 citations. Naw, let the kid play. What the he11, it's only 5 citations -- including booze, speeding, and maryjane. Let the kid play. Driving w/o a license and no insurance? Shoot man, danged guv'mit is always imposing unreasonable restraints on us citizens. C'mon dudes, this is 'Merica, we all got rights! Kid didn't hurt nobody ... let him play.
The kid should have been dumped from the team a long time ago. All the talent in the world and all he wants to do is pi$$ it away. Kind of like them Vick boys? You go coach, keep a firm hand on the tiller, and don't let reality affect your judgement in any way. Enjoy your last few games and then head on down the road. But, whatever you do, make sure you do it your way.

now that he's back, how about moving him to WR, instead of being buried on the CB depth chart?
What? it's just a thought...

Broke 5 laws in just one stop and got supended for just one game.
They may all be minor crimes and some will argue that pot should be legal but the bottom line it is not and legal drug possession should not be tolerated. That section of Knoxville is known for its drug traffic. This is not the 1st time Brent has been in trouble and as long as the punishemnt does not equal regret or cause a loss then it will continue.

You know, it's just hard to overlook terminal stupidity. What's he have to do to get punted, kill someone? There will be no happy ending to this story.
GerryOP writes:
JAIT (You won't be offended if I abbreviate your ignorant screenname will you?) Head Coach Phillip Fulmer and his arrogant, pompous, stubborn attitude sealed his own fate.
OBTW, do not ever again claim that Phillip Fulmer is the best coach in the history of our program. By stating such nonsense, you are showing your ignorance about Tennessee football.
Reality sucks! Grow up and get used to it.

I dont blame Fulmer I'd play him now to besides what does he have left to lose ?

Phil Fulmer is the best coach in UT history

Bull Chips. General Neyland is the best coach in UT history. It is a toss up between Majors and Fulmer, neither knew when it was time to go and both went out kicking and screaming
TennesseeBlitz writes:
In our lifetime guys especially in the mid to late 90's Fulmer was golden. The national championship in 98 a day we'll never forget. To me Fulmer is the best coach in UT history. To say Neyland is the best coach ? I dont know ? A tard could run those offenses and also a tard could play defense cause the opponents only ran like 3 plays

Whats a little fun cruizin with a blount listening to "One toke over the line" on the JBLs harm?
Missing most parked cars and also paperwork on insurance and registration.
Nothing is worng.

if it were an "average" person pulled over and they had no liscense, no insurance, a bag of pot, and a open alcohol container, that person would go to jail. who were the cops that let him off with citations for this? kick this loser off the team. all the talent in the world and hes content to waste it on UT's dime
LongtimeVol writes:
I guess if you live long enough you hear everything. Neyland is by far the best coach ever at UT, and in my Vol lifetime I preferred Doug Dickey to Fulmer. Toss up between Majors and Fulmer, who ironically have so much in common.

Yes, Naffy, Rogers is a receiver, and I won't put down another player to show up your ignorant racism.

Respect Phil and know his intent is to "save" these guys from themselves. This young man has already had failures and continues on to 5 offenses?? Risking others lives. Think Phil's father influence is part of his downfall with discipline issues.
Yes, put him on as a receiver and EB can issue some attitude adjustment in practice. That should really give him something to drink about.
Volalumnus writes:
Really!
Fulmer can't be held responsible for what the kid did, but he can be responsible for his reaction.
This is about stupid of Fulmer and probably was a final straw that lead to Fulmer getting fired.
Basically a 3 day suspension. Wow!
Volalumnus writes:
You weren't in the car with Vinson were you?
Just wondering if you were smoking the same cr@p.
Volalumnus writes:
Fulmer better find a way to go from kicking and screaming to gracefully taking an administration position or he will destroy any good guy image he has with phooey like this.

In with the new.

Guys, most major college football and basketball players smoke the tree every once in a while, its not that big of a deal. You wouldn't believe some of the past players that I have personally partaken with who are now playing professional sports, and I wouldn't rat them out anyways. They didn't get caught though. Its the really dumb ones that get in trouble for it (Coker, O. Smith, Wingate, etc.), b/c they have to either get caught by the cops or get caught multiple times.
