Tennessee junior safety Demetrice Morley has been suspended for Saturday’s game against Wyoming for a violation of a class attendance policy.
This is the fourth time this season the Vols will have to shuffle their secondary because of a suspension.
Sophomore cornerback Brent Vinson was suspended for the opener against UCLA, a portion of the Northern Illinois and South Carolina games.
The Vols have a couple of options to replace Morley.
UT’s coaches could slide cornerback Dennis Rogan to safety and play Marsalous Johnson at Rogan’s vacated cornerback spot. The Vols could also play freshman Prentiss Waggner at safety in place of Morley.
Injury Report: Defensive end Chris Walker will not play this week and be limited in practice throughout next week’s off week as he recovers from a back injury.
Coach Phillip Fulmer said the sophomore reserve has some small stress fractures in his back that flare up occasionally.
Berry Switch: Sophomore safety Eric Berry will wear No. 29 in honor of former defensive back Inquoris “Inky” Johnson, who suffered a career-ending shoulder injury in 2006.

When it rains, it pours. Here we go again...
These student-athletes, who are provided a free education need a bit more discipline and maturity to appreciate the rare and wonderful opportunity they have been given. They must do a better job of representing the University.

Fulmer's fault right? Why don't we try to fire him again...is that possible? Maybe, there's a clause in the contract that says we can keep some of that that 6 mil he's getting. You guys try to figure out a way ok.
CoverOrange writes:
I wish they would lighten up on this class attendance policy. My college roommate would show up for the first day to get the syllabus, show up again for the mid term and last day for the final.. and get straight A's. Of course, his major was psychology, but the point is going to class doesn't mean you are learning. Just make sure he shows up for study hall and does his homework.
That said, after all that Morley went through to get back in school.....

Some guys just don't pay attention, do they?

is this guy ever going to get it. this is the reason he got the boot from school the first time. did all that work to get back and now he's falling right back into the same problems again. will never finsh his eligibility on the field at ut...mark it down!
HollySpringsVOL writes:
Nope, not it isn't CPF's fault. It is entirely the fault of Morley. Coaching can't *make* a person responsible and mature, they have to have that in their core character. If you are paying for your own education, you can miss all the classes you want. This case is very different since they are spending the University's money. It isn't that much to ask to have them attend class without skipping.

No discipline or expectations in this bunch. Just
"do as you please" attitude which caries over to Saturday.
No surprise. Bring in a hard nose coach and clean this mess up.

HDHurst, great post, really deserves sheeple post of the day! Apparently you didn't see what Ball State did to Northern Illinois last night, a team that Fullmoor beat 13-6. BTW, Ball State rushed for about 220 yards against them, Tennessee rushed for 69 and averaged 2.2 per run. Sorry you won't be able to call any shows next season and praise PhiLLLLLL next season, but just be the way it is sometimes.

good point wagon...I am not the first here to say that we didn't have an o-line that was worth a sh*t this year. So, you really got me there. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. With their bad year, I suppose Rod in Michigan is just as bad as fulmer, right?

Can anyone tell me about the time and availability of the Wyoming game for Saturday?

First question I always ask was: Will I be suspended from watching the Vols play if I miss class? Second question: Is a text book required for this class?

"the other thing that's killing me (in regards to....we shouldn't have fired fulmer because he was a great mentor)
all coaches, have an effect on the players as men. most all of them are trying to steer them in the right direction.
fulmer is no different than most other coaches in the sport.
he had players get kicked out of school for academic reasons. he had players kicked out of school for extracurricular activities. he had players be the first in the their family to graduate from college. he had players get arrested. he has had players become teachers, lawyers, doctors, police officers, etc, etc, etc. he had players get suspended for violation of team rules and miss the game against west palooka state and then miraculously have the suspension lifted right before the game against a good opponent. he cared about all of them. he tried to do the best he could with all of them.
believe it or not, that is true of most coaches. and that will be true of tennessee's next coach."

99gator writes:
i don't think much.
lee loves to give the other team a pick six every week.
but, i would be more concerned about the lsu defense than the lsu offense in this game.
i don't think lsu has enough and bama will be too ready for this one.

My son has a class with Stephens. Said he shows up only on test days. Apparently the professors don't report attendance consistently. Last year he had a class with Chris Lofton. Said Chris was in class every session.

A blitzshoot HE WAS SUSPENDED! That's discipline. Do you think coach should kick him off the team?
pdhuff#552644 writes:
Being positive, at least he didn't have a old bong mounted on the roof.
99gator - I agree,. It will be tough for LSU to "man up" in this one. Saban has 8 DTs after all. They are not important to some.
shoalcreekvol writes:
Right on, blitz. CPF can't make 'em go to class, but there's no doubt that these players walked into a culture where they aren't afraid of the consequences. Tone is set from the top. I think that's the main reason the players are so frantic (like children) about his ouster - there comfort zone is at risk.

Berry wearing number 29 is a huge honor for both he and Inky!! I think Inky is in line to be a G.A next year, whoever is hired as the head coach needs to make sure and keep him here with the program!!!!! And lets support the players through all this!!!!

You have to be kidding right? These guys have a huge responsability that your roomate does not have. There are millions of dollars, and thousands of fans that count on them to be on the field on saturday. Id like to believe they are here for education and football, but we know for most thats not true. BUT, there are NCAA rules on what kinds of grades these athletes have. Your roomate may be able to not go to class and make the grades, but more the majority of kids in any school, thats not the case. Why dont we just get the NCAA to not care what grades they make too. WOW Sometimes i dont have to think to hard why poeple think tennessee fans are dumb

How in in the world could Morley even let this happen considering what he went through to get back to this point?!? Even if he didn't come back for the education, he should at least have enough sense to go to class until he is done with football at UT considering the staff would be watching him like a hawk.
blhvols#536551 writes:
I would guess there is an attendance policy at UT for all students, not just football players!!!!!

Everyone probably oughta try and think before they get all high and mighty talking about Morley. Yea he was an idiot for not doin what needed to be done, but gotta remember these kids aren't grown men, they're college students who are just real good at football. But still just college students...I agree that players should be disciplined in their approach to both the field and classroom. but the missing class incident...pretty sure my class attendance record on the hill wasn't much to brag about...know what I mean?
Volsrbest writes:
I understand your point and everyone is human, no doubt. I'm quite certain Phil wouldn't suspend him for missing one class. I'm sure there is a track record here. Not to mention this is why he had to spend a year at Pellissippi to get back in school.
Bottom line is he's getting a free ride. Go to class for goodness sake. The tutors do most of their work anyway, so I don't think it's too much to ask for the players to make "most" of their classes.
GoVol writes:
Good. Morley has been a disappointment on the field this year. So, if he can't go to class then allow someone else a chance to play. Morely certainly hasn't lived up to pre-season expectations.

doegem writes:
I think a requirement to attend class for scholarship athletes is an outmoded concept. Why shouldn't they be able to take athletics part time just as any other student may attend part time in a field of their choice.
And while I'm on it, it has always annoyed me that much is made about ensuring athletes don't receive extra benefits unavailable to general students and that makes no sense, either. General students, scholarship or not, may accept whatever benefits or advantages that may come to them. The rule for athletes just makes the rule-makers look stupid.
They should just admit that they don't want open payment of athletes and bidding wars so they can keep them earning millions for the schools for the price of a scholarship that may or may not be of value to the individual receiving it.
But this is easy enough to solve -- make a new rule -- pay everybody the same. The usual monkey business under the table can still go on.
