Lady Vols' Johnson freshman of the week

Tennessee freshman Glory Johnson was named SEC Freshman of the Week Monday for her performance in the Lady Vols’ 68-39 season-opening win over San Francisco.

Against the Dons, Johnson became the 11th freshman to start her first game at UT. The Webb School product was 7-of-11 from the field to finish with a team-high 17 points. She also had a team-high 12 rebounds, eight of which came on offense, for her first career double-double.

And Scotty Hopson won the same award this week for the men. It's a clean sweep for The Hill!

We don't care who is your favorite. You should be supporting both players. They all represent the same university!!!!

Stricklen was great, too, and I wouldn't be surprised if she won a few of these herself, but what do you have against Glory Johnson? She seems to have a LOT of game to me. Just curious.

I remember some idiot posting last year that Glory was selfish and not a team player while at Webb. I doubt that same idiot will post here, but I know what I saw was a fiery, determined basketball player willing to dive on the floor after loose balls and do whatever it took to get the job done. Good job Glory and here's to many more!

Lots of talent on this team.. Have a feeling they will all have their own game.. Way to go Lady Vols!

I loved the way they played. Not looking to give the ball to one particular player but all ready to shoot.

My only comment is "only time will tell" Go Lady Vols!

BTW: Just one thing: comment was made to my friends daughter by this player "I am better than Candace"...no reponse needed! Just thought I would throw that in.

A foolishly over-confident statement, perhaps, but if she works hard to be "better than Candace" then she will only be a better player for it even if she doesn't actually reach that admittedly lofty goal. "A (wo)man's reach should exceed (her) grasp, or what's a heaven for?" in the (slightly altered) words of the poet.
