Vanderbilt Commodores
1. Embrace the Role: Tennessee is one loss away from its worst record in program history. Whether or not that happens, the Vols need to embrace their role as underdogs beginning today at Vanderbilt.
2. Less of Moore: Vanderbilt’s D.J. Moore is one of the SEC’s most versatile players. He’ll take snaps in all three phases of the game, and the Vols must limit his effectiveness — especially in the kicking game — to have a chance.
3. Be Stingy: Tennessee’s offense handed Wyoming all of its 13 points two weeks ago in a 13-7 loss. UT can’t afford to spot Vandy any points. The Commodores are 6-4 largely because of their ability to capitalize on opponent turnovers. In each of its four losses, Vandy has given more than it’s taken.
4. Run, Run, Run: Vanderbilt’s run defense (136 yards per game) is middle of the pack in the country and bottom third in the SEC. Rather than put too much on whoever plays at quarterback, the Vols need to lean on the run this week. With Montario Hardesty healthy and Arian Foster a possibility, the Vols should have enough depth.
5. Find Snaps for B.J.: Jonathan Crompton will start at quarterback, but B.J. Coleman will play. Coaches need to find a way to get Coleman some snaps with the outcome in doubt. Maybe he’ll deliver. Maybe not. But it will pay dividends for UT down the line.

1. play with emotion. emotion has fueled the team all year long. MNF against UCLA. the revenge games with florida and alabama. do or die vs. auburn and georgia. remember they fired your coach. and with that much more emotion, look what you did against wyoming.
2. change qb's. when tennesee has changed qb's, things have improved.
3. don't play eric berry on offense or use brandon warren. there is no place in this game for talented football players.
4. watch the tape. when coaches go back and break down film, they seem to make corrections and tennessee shows vast improvement the next week. this is a big key.
5. even though it's november, don't get distracted by all the talk going on about the BCS. that will play itself out. just go out and concentrate on playing a sound football game.

didn't they embrace the underdog role at SEC media days when they were picked third in the SEC East. i remember fulmer was a little angry about that and played that up a little. some even said, phil was showing some "fire in the belly".

what isn't humorous is that they had five big things to beat wyoming.
what isn't humorous is that key #1 this week is to "embrace the underdog role" against vanderbilt.

Yes, this has been a bad year. Virtually all "Legends of the Game" throughout history have had them. Most had more than two. This one is very easily explained. They made a horrible hire as offensive coordinator. Nothing more, nothing less. You cannot win games with only defense. Phil's legacy is not debatable. His legacy will only grow as the next coaches come and go. Looking at the truth of the 2000's decade. Looking at the decades since 1950 (prior would be pointless and an apples to bananas comparison), the 2000 decade is still the second best behind the 1990's. We have enjoyed 4 10 win seasons. We have enjoyed 3 SEC East Titles. Even this "down" period will be looked at with reverence as the parade of successors begins.

this point is suggesting playing a qb against vandy and that he "may deliver or may not". in short, let's just see what happens and hope it's something good. again, this is a key to victory.....against vandy. it's the 11th game of the season. it also will pay dividends for tennessee down the line. and we know this how? who knows what the new coach will do. next year's starter might be crompton for all anyone knows. coleman may have a horrible game and be named the starter for next season. these final two games are useless to the new coaching staff except to evaluate who is playing hard and who has quit.

4. Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.
5. Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.

5. Finally, and most importantly, don't be intimidated. You're going into a very hostile environment with thousands of screaming fans. Don't let the Vandy empire shake you.
Just trying to have some fun. Been a long season.

How about the players concede the game before kickoff and have a good time tomorrow afternoon in downtown Nashville, instead -- it's not like the guys will lose their scholarship if they walk off the field, a great and original way to send a message to the AD that they didn't like his decision to force their coach to resign.
