Not interested in job talk "for now" I believe the article says.
If MH wants him, he'll be the next coach.

Everyone is going to get pay raises and stay where they are at and Tennessee will have to go further down on the list.

Typical coachspeak. What else would he say? Maybe, ok guys, let's work hard to win this championship, then I'm baling out. Means nothing...either way.
utvol1961#212938 writes:
He should work well here for a couple of years. He has made his name by winning with other coaches players.

Amen.
Best headline would be Hamilton asks GT for permission to speak to PJ.
Oh well.
HoustonVol writes:
At least this guy is more honest than most coaches. Everyone one else is saying "no". At least this guy is willing to say, I will address it at the end of the season and I am not going to talk about it. There is also the other view on what he said. He told the lawyers to keep it off his desk. Why? If the papers hit his desk, then it becomes public material and the press and then sue to have rights to it. The same reason why MH is only talking to people behind the scenes. If it is written down, the press and sue for it. They all work for state schools. I for one would love to have Kelly. I have been watching him since his Central Michigan days, and think he is a great coach that can get the most out of his talent. When a coach moves up from DII, one or two things happen, he keeps rising to the top, or he falls flat no his face. Kelly has shown no threat of falling on his face, and keeps winning championships. A head coach needs to be able to coach, and do some recruiting. You hire great Coord to do the bulk of your recruiting. Kelly would be a great hire.

You seem pretty sure of yourself, there Fred.

Two interesting quotes if put together may tell the story
Hamilton says the contract should be signed by the second week of December.
Kelly says he has told his lawyers to keep the issue off his desk for now.
Each comment taken by itself is somewhat strange but taken together sound like there may be a deal between Hamilton and Kelly and the timing of the actual contract and announcement will be the second week of December.

Kelly is not for UT, bunch of hype... look at who they played NOBODY the big east is very weak this year. Kelly is an arrogunt jerk. EGO out of bounds. Leach,Whittingham,Peterson in that order. just my opinion

And maybe the BLOWOUTS will stop with a real coach.
jobrando#216494 writes:
Kelly still needs to win his last game. This does not mean he is out. Kiffin and daddy Kiffin would not be a bad thing. I'm sure Monte Kiffin could make the right hires to build a great defense even if he is older than dirt. He may be getting tired at Tampa Bay. He and Chavis could just trade jobs.
whiskeyman writes:
None of this makes sense. None of these names makes any sense. None have the pedigree of Fulmer. How can you hire someone with less to offer than what you had. It's not a popularity contest it's business. Are we now destined to the fate simular to Florida, LSU, Alabama, Georgia and so on, where they went thru coach after coach making mistake after another. Most went thru 4 or 5 coach before taking the oxyigen mask off and making a "real" hire. By the way going thru 4 or 5 coaches sends this program to depths that we haven't seen yet. It will get much worse before it turns upward.

Kelly is going somewhere, UT/Clemson?? But he's going.
ctownvol writes:
Kelly will receive $14,000 if the Bearcats (9-2) win 10 games, $30,000 for their three wins over Top 25 opponents, and $50,000 if UC's home attendance average is between 27,501 and 32,000. The Bearcats average 31,477.
Between 27,501 and 32,000? 32,000? Kelly would poop his pants coaching in front of 104,000+.
chbradshaw writes:
If it was Kiffin they could finalize the contracts and announce them today.
Kelly would be willing to leave Cincinnati prior to the Orange Bowl.
If it was Leach, I assume he would be willing to leave prior to the Cotton Bowl.

Barnhart from AJC is reporting that Clemson job will go to Dabo Sweeney (why in the world they'd want him I haven't a clue). What will be interesting is if and when the ND job becomes available next week...
Could they make a move after Pope Urban?? very likey they'd put feelers out, especially if he wins NC #2. i have a feeling the coaching carousel is about to heat up in a major way if ND drops the arrogant fatboy
Stinger3 writes:
A contract can be signed with any coach. You just have to build contingencies into it to protect their current obligations and allow them to announce/terminate when
it is best for all parties. The contract is signed.

I'm with you, brother.
If you put Brian Kelly next to Paul Johnson, what makes Kelly the "great" coach and Johnson the ugly step sister?
At least Johnson is from North Carolina and has coached in the South.
And his offense wound give opponents fits because they would only see it once a year and it is very difficult to prepare for, (remember UT vs. Air Force...they ran a similar style and we couldn't stop it, even though we had far superior talent).
I think we need to do a write-in vote for Paul Johnson. At least he would have two votes.
jobrando#216494 writes:
Welcome Brian and Monte Kiffin....Daddy Kiffin because he is an old fella is going to be exempt from recruiting.

It's rumored Mr Hamilton will be posting on this site the name of the new coach this week. So watch for MHAMILTON's post.

Living in Atlanta, and coming from a Tech family, Paul Johnson has done a wonderful thing for Georgia Tech's program and more important, their fan base. Tech folks were sooooo thoroughly fed up with Chan Gailey! He is a great coach and a wonderful salesman for Georgia Tech football! He has their fanbase so very excited, and for good reason. That being said, I just don't think that offense would work in the SEC week in and week out. Maybe it would work to the tune of 6 or maybe 7 wins a year, but I think it has been well-established that just isn't enough for UT football. Again. Don't get me wrong. I love Paul Johnson and what he has done everywhere he has been, but I just don't think he is the right person for this job. I could be wrong though. Just ask my ex-wife.

Speaking of who cares: In 9 seasons of the 2000's decade (lets not leave this season out of your analysis), Tenn has as many 8 or less win seasons as 10 win seasons. And, I would say two 5 or worse win seasons probably outweighs the two 10 win seasons where we didn't win the tenth game in the regular season (comparing apples to apples).
Furthermore, since the good 2004 season (5 seasons ago), the program has inarguably been trending towards mediocrity.

CT: You're right, IMO, about what PJ has done for Tech. You're wrong about the option not working in the SEC. The way PJ runs it, it would work anywhere. And to those that say it's boring..they should see a replay of the Tech/Miami game. Just my humble take.

Keep in mind Brian Kelly recruited and developed Dan LeFevour at Central Michigan. He's ok...I guess.
LeFevour's stats this year includes: 2,153 yards, 15 TD, QB Rating of 142.07, and completion percentage of 67.5%
His career stats include: 8,836 yards, 68 TD, 140.603 QB Rating, and 65.53% completion percentage.
Since Coach Kelly has been at Cincinnati his QBs have done this...
2007: 10-3 (4-3) – 3,720 yards, 36 TD, QB Rating of 149.4, and 61.6% completion percentage
2008: #19 9-2 (5-1) – 2,848 yards, 21 TD, QB Rating of 142.4, and 62.7% completion (Keep in mind this is with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string QBs)
UT's QB numbers this year looking a little something like...1,649 yards, 7 TD, 9 INT, QB Rating of 96.5, and 48.8% completion percentage
Coach Kelly hasn't been at a school long enough to bring in his own players, but he's done a heck of a job developing the ones he inherits. Keep in mind how bad UC and CMU were before Kelly got to those schools. If memory serves me correct CMU hadn’t won more than 3 games in the 4 years before Kelly got there. In his first year they went 4-7. In his second year they went 6-5, which was CMU’s first winning season in 7 years. In his third year went 9-4, won the MAC, and got to a bowl game. UC had its second 10 season ever in Kelly’s first year, they won their bowl game, and he was named Big East Coach of the Year. Now it’s looking like UC is on the verge of another 10 win season, a Big East Championship, and a BCS bid.
Not too bad for a guy who feeds off the scraps of other coaches
DennisVols writes:
Someone else to consider is the OC at OU. Several comments during the game concerning him getting a HC position following this year. Great player developer and would attract a lot of highly rated offensive stars with that style of offense.

You are correct sir! Tech/Miami was a great showcase for what Johnson's offense is capable of. I was there in person. And that sir was no boring way to win. But I was also there for the Gardner-Webb debacle. Tomatoe/tomahto. Ya know?
