HOUSTON - Guard Fred Weary, who was on injured reserve, was released by the Houston Texans.
Weary, who suffered a broken leg last season, told Houston television station KRIV he doesn't feel like he's ready to play football.
"If I go to another team and I can't pass the physical, I would have to consider filing an injury grievance," the former UT standout told the station.

I live in Houston, Fred Weary has done a yoemans job for the Texans. His leg was broken on the field. He has not made the millions that many football players make. He has pretty much made the lower ranges in salary. He has kept his nose clean, never embarassed the Texans or the University of Tennessee(See Travis Henry) and he deserves the opportunity to get healed and to play to regain his spot. He has given back to the fans and the community and been a model citizen. He is soft spoken, and a truly gracious person.
He was falsely arrested by two hispanic police officers who pulled him over, for what proved to be no reason, using profiling techniques and the female officer paniced when he got out of the car and she saw his size and tasered him. He was cleared of any wrong doing, the charges dropped and has a suit pending against the city of Houston for the damages he suffered.
The Texans are WRONG in this case, not Fred Weary. He should file the grievance, and he will most likely win. The Texans' history is riddled with poor personnel decisions. Fred was one of TWO original Texans still on the roster. His work ethic and loyalty to a poorly managed franchise should be rewarded, not discarded.
The aforementioned comment by "wlvol" reeks of ignorance and a total lack of understanding of the real world and his particular situation. Fred Weary is one of the truly good guys in the sports world. He deserves better treatment than that comment. I have met him twice at alumni functions in Houston. He is truly a credit to our university. As an alumnus who has a degree from the University of Tennessee, I am proud to call Fred Weary a fellow Vol. I am pulling for his recovery and return to the NFL, hopefully with a real football team.

Who are you to judeg someone who has been good for the University of Tennessee and the Texans? Maybe a wanna-be that never was good enough himself?
I was not good enough but I appreciate those who can and will, through hard work and dedication, be good enough for a shot at a life long dream!
Maybe you need to get a life and stop this anger! That's it an anger management course should be in your future. I hope things get better for you so you don't need to lash out at others. I wish Fred well. GO VOLS!!
