What I'm saying is watch what roads you choose to go down with your postings to avoid being bumped again. For the record Will Bartholomew was an excellent blocker who gave up his body for the BIG ORANGE running back following his lead.

IMO -Chuck Webb was the greatest tailback TN ever had.

He was redshirted in his freshman year.(Why, Johnny? Why?)
Played the next year as part of the Cobb-Webb backfield.
In his third year, he blew out his knee early in the season against Pacific.
He then declared for the draft and was taken in the third round by Green Bay, but was released that year.

It is quite possible we could have been celebrating a 1990 national championship if he had stayed healthy.

jcherrie#219531 writes:

Wow - I was living in the Connecticut - New York City Suburbs at the time. I remember arguing with Syracuse fans on gameday about how the Vols would squeak out a close win because of Jamal Lewis.

The Florida game was special - we were both lucky and good. I had a party at my house with about 40 people - 10 of which were Vol fans. The feedback I received was - "We're not surprised you arranged such a good party - but how did you anticipate the football game?"

I saw the Alabama game live - what a time on the strip!

The Arkansas game wasn't televised nationally - it was only on satellite. I remember going to a local sports bar with about 10 over Vol fans. During the last few minutes I remember closing out my check and being taunted by Gator fans. And then came the Stoerner fumbler. I remember picking up a 6' 4" Vol fan over my shoulder (I'm about 5' 8" - but a former wrestler).

And I was there in Tempe -- what a time.

Anyway - it was a heck of a lot better than the 2 times I spent in Pasadena.

Lol. I forgot about Peyton mooning that female reporter. Not his best moment, but surely not hers either.

Peyton was hands down the best quarterback in college football and now he's the best quarterback in pro football. He knows more, demands more and gets more from the guys around him than anyone else.

And now he shows his character with his continuous support of St. Mary's and many other charities.

UT will always be better for having ties to the Manning family.

you may wish to review the rushing stats for the years Mr. Bartholomew was there. His job was to block.

AS for your hatred of Manning....Peyton very much put us at a highr level on the football map and his signing brought many good players to UT.

Tee got his NC because, quite frankly, he had better support than Peyton. Remember, Tee's RB's were Jamal, TRavis, Travis, and Bryson. Peyton did not have Jamal until AFTER his last UF game. You certainly can't lay the 63-38 loss on Payton, that one falls on Jay Graham and the D. The UT D was much better for Tee's years than Peyton's.

You pretty much suck as a vol fan if all you can do as complain about race. it took a damn 150 years to try to get race out of the way as the No. 1 issue, and some freak like you has to try to keep it going.

Well, except for Travis Henry. Not only does he have about nine children out of wedlock, and has been repeatedly sued for not supporting them, but he is also awaiting trial on a pretty major drug-trafficking charge. All in all, a great shame, since he was one of my favorites when he was playing here.

Right you are, arkyvol. There is a reason why some say NFL stands for "Not For Long"! Still, there has probably never been a group of Tennessee players with so many who at least had a chance to make an NFL roster.

Agree - We could have won a national championship in 90 if he didn't get hurt. It was shared that year by Colorado and Georgia Tech.

I miss the short-lived Cobb-Webb tandem.

Those were the days. It just seemed like Tennessee and college football in general were better back then. There was a better atmosphere all-around than there is today. I miss those days.

EyeKnowNothing....If you want to keep bringing up Peyton against UF, why don't you go back and look at HIS numbers in those games. They were pretty freaking good! He did the best with what was around him at the time and led the offense to enough points for a win. Problem was, the Defense couldn't stop Florida! I'm pretty sure Peyton didn't play defense at UT so it's har to hang all those loses on him. If you're so concerned with "TEAM", then why is it all Peytons fault the "TEAM" lost. Shouldn't YOU as the "TEAM" guy be saying the "TEAM" couldn't beat florida? You're useless ramblings do little more than prove your ignorance. If you want to make a point, try making one that is not so easily disputed! LOSER!

thanks True Vol!! Said on another site but lived in Indy for many years. Indy would do anything to keep Peyton as he is much loved by all in the community AND on the team. Supports so many needed programs that help all kinds of people. PLUS, he is a pretty dam*** good football player!!!

Kinda shows you how STUPID Indianapolis residents are . BTW ( "considering what he had around him") The SAME players ( team ) Tee had around him !

How'd he do against Florida or Nebraska in the Orange Bowl ? And how'd Tee Martin do with the "same team" in 1998 ?

in your opinion then, he should have won every game in which he played. including defense. i nominate you for the idiot of the year. in fact, there are several villages in the world looking for their own idiot.

How do you go from this article to bashing Manning. Martin and Manning were both great UT QB's. The NC team was older more mature and got some very good breaks. Manning will just go down with the likes of Dan Marino, oops Manning won a Superbowl. I guess Marino is a loser, not.

You know this article is loaded with info concerning the 1998 UT National Champs. We are so proud of all of them. They were a great team that we can be proud of.
Go Vols !

Notice a majority of these guys did, or are doing, something with their lives. That says a lot about why they won a NC. They had a desire to succeed. Wonder what it would look like if they did a list form the 2005 team? or this years team if you looked back on it 10 years from now? I would dare to say there would be a lot of "no information available"!!

I contribute the most to a refuse to lose attitude. What do you contribute your ignorance too?
