The Tennessee women's volleyball team scored its fourth consecutive victory Friday night and its first SEC win at Alabama in four years.
The Lady Vols swept the Crimson Tide by the identical scores of 25-22.
"This was a huge win for our team,'' UT coach Rob Patrick said. "Alabama was serving tough and not making any errors, which forced us to play at a high level and earn each point."
Senior Mindy Flynn led Tennessee (14-8, 7-4 SEC) with 12 kills and a .391 hitting percentage. Nikki Fowler and Milan Clarke each had eight kills.
"Alabama was focusing a lot of attention on Nikki, and I made it my goal to go out and take the pressure off her,'' Flynn said.
Chloe Goldman had 17 digs against Alabama (10-9, 3-7), surpassing the 1,000 career mark.
Men's Golf: No. 14 Tennessee shot an 11-over par 299 team score and is tied for 10th after the first round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, being played at the Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesborough.
Tennessee is 11 strokes behind team leader East Tennessee State.
Chris Paisley was the top Vol. He shot par 72 and is tied for 10th in the individual standings. Paisley is just two strokes behind leader Matt Hill of North Carolina State.
David Holmes shot a 75 and is tied for 38th. Robin Wingardh and Justin Walker each shot 76 and are tied for 44th.
Women's Tennis: Three Tennessee doubles teams and three singles players advanced with victories at the ITA's Southeast Regional Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C.
UT's Caitlin Whoriskey, who's seeded ninth in the tournament, beat Vanderbilt's Chelsea Preeg 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles, Whoriskey and Zsofia Zubor beat Elon's Anna Millian and Paige Kensrue 8-3.
Zubor beat Charlotte's Ana Spivakovsky 6-3, 6-4.
Lady Vol Rosalia Alda also scored a pair of victories, combining with Maria Sorbello for an 8-4 win over Duke's Jessie Robinson and Ellah Nze and beating USC-Upstate's Bianca Saenz 6-3, 6-1 in singles.
The other Tennessee doubles team advancing was Jennifer Meredith and Natalie Pluskota.
