C'mon Mike. Make the announcement this week.

This thought came to me; The last several BCS champions, their coaches and they years of experience at those schools at the time they won their national championships

2000 - Oklahoma, Bob Stoops, 2nd year
2001 - Miami, Larry Coker, 1st year
2002 - Ohio State, Jim Tressel, 2nd year
2003 - LSU, Nick Saban, 3rd year
2003 - USC, Pete Carroll, 2nd year
2004 - USC, Pete Carroll, 3rd year
2005 - Texas, Mack Brown, 8th year
2006 - Florida, Urban Meyer, 2nd year
2007 - LSU, Les Miles, 3rd year

Why can't UT turn it around in just a couple of years? I don't think anyone's seriously expecting crystal footballs every season. But with UT's tradition, the facilities, and the support, all of the tools are in place. Simply getting a coach who knows that he can't use a screwdriver to sink a nail will go a long way to earning the respect of the players, fans, and fear from our opponents.

The rest of these games are worthless and mean nothing. EVEN IF Phulmer finds a way to win out, it's all for not and for you Phulmerites, he hasn't turned it around, hasn't righted the ship, and doesn't mean that next year we need to stay the course no matter how tickled to death he has because of how hard these guys have worked.

In the spirit of this stupid poll by an amateur KNS sportswriter, add the following to the poll:
- Phil Fulmer's jaw gets stuck in place after one too many disappointed grimaces from the sidelines.
- The O-line sets the all-time NCAA record for false start penalties inside the red zone.
- Steve Spurrier, sensing the grand finale of his long-time punching bag's coaching career, plays conservative and nice guy in the 2nd half while nursing a 20 point lead.
- (In the unlikely event of a Win at USC), UT fans heave a collective sigh of embarrassment about the best-case scenario of a berth in the Independence Bowl...

Phil's next goal - Win 6 games!
.... And play like heck!

Quite possibly the stupidest post I've seen on these boards this season.

And it's possible that he might throw CLAWSON (no relation to our erstwhile QB family) under the bus, just as he did Randy Sanders.

If he does, I think the Big Orange Nation should march 100,000 strong in the streets of every Tennessee city in protest.

I would take Clawson as HC right now.

When Ralph Friedgen was hired at Maryland, a reporter asked him if he had a 5 year plan for turning Maryland around. He responded that 5 year plans are for coaches who don't have a 1 year plan.

Fulmer seems to have a 4 year plan. Every 4 years, make it to the dome (2001, 2004, 2007). Then follow that up with a season of 5 or more losses (2002, 2005, 2008). It seems that UT keeps falling into the same ditch over and over. Fulmer's explanations each season we fall into the ditch don't seem to change much. Perfect storms, magic dust, didn't get stupid overnight, etc.

If Fulmer has any dignity left whatsoever he should never have to be asked to resign. He should resign today and he will be honored as he deserves to be, but not if he has to be asked to resign. If he has to be asked to resign, that tells me he still doesn't get it.

I agree denmark. And even more absurd may be my belief that Clawson may be the guy everybody is on here saying we need at UT. His hands have been tied all year by Fulmer trying to save his own job. I hope that Clawson is the next HC at UT. Not many people had heard of Bruce Pearl when UT hired him. Clawson has shown an ability to take over a program and turn it around. Albeit small programs, nonetheless IMO it should be easier to turn around a program like UT with great facilities than to turn around a program like Richmond. A good coach can turn around a program at any level IMO.

Saying you don't want to go through what Bama and LSU doesn't cut it. What do you think we are going through right now? We are guarenteed mediocrity (at best) with Phil, or we can take a chance on a new coach and maybe get it turned around. Fulmer is not letting Clawson coach (same plays for the last 10 years, except when Cut was here) and the fact that the Offense and the O-Line are problems at all point to Phil as the problem (both his "specialties"). Phil is the problem this year and if he stays, he will be the problem next year!!

Spurrier will only coach one more year and no he will not come to UT He hates UT always has and always will. The next head coach will have 2 bad years and then the program will be turned around. It may be that we have just one bad year until some of the thugs learn some discipline and get some coaching. Chavis will be retained as defensive coach The rest of the crew will be let go and should have been years ago. UT will win two more games this year and they will be ugly. Who will be our coach next year? Not Fulmer. I do not know who it will be but I do know it will not be Spurrier or Gruden By the way Ol Trooper Taylor sure has made a fine offensive coach at OK St hasnt he? I agree with the new coach thing, usually they like to bring their guys with them. And you cant blame them cause you will be judged by your first few years. I mean look at Fulmer, his first 6 years were pretty good and people are still living that even though his last 8 have been no better than Mediocre

I agree with the first 2 posters, this is a stupid poll. Why don't we get Mike Singletary in here and get some discipline in this program. That is what we need more than anything. The talent is there. The talented, with few exceptions, is not being coached. They think they can act like heathens and thugs and then rejoice on the sidelines like they've done something. The guys who seem to want it the most are standing back hurting because their hands are tied. I'm sick of seeing Coach with his hands over his face, looking down, throwing his cap. I want to see some passion - some guts to go for 3rd and short, some courage to play to win, why would we play not to lose? We're gonna lose. That's what we do now, lose. Show me some dadgum discipline!

Hamilton better focus on coaches that have demonstrated the ability to do more with less in the I-A division against big programs; and do it consistently. A key to this is solid line play with a good push in short yardage situations, a good between the tackles running game, and strong focus on stopping the run.

Fulmer does less with more; this has been proven for 16 years and the data is overwhelming. Even the ESPN guys noted Alabama doesn't have one lick more talent than UT;.....so what's going on? Quick fixes, as Saban knows, start in the trenches. That's where games are won and football is played. That's where Tennessee was beat Saturday. That's where Neyland said touchdowns follow blocking as sure as night follows day.
