White team gets even, 9-2

Kentrail Davis and Cody Hawn combined to drive in eight runs as the White team beat the Orange 9-2 Saturday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, evening Tennessee baseball's Orange & White World Series at two games apiece.

Hawn hit a first-inning grand slam. The baserunners reached via an error, a walk and a fielder's choice. Hawn finished with two hits, a walk and five RBIs.

Davis struck with the bases loaded in the fifth, clearing them with a double off the wall in centerfield.

Bryan Morgado started and pitched four innings for the White, allowing no runs on two hits. He struck out two and walked none.

Jeff Lockwood took the loss for the Orange, allowing four runs on three hits in two innings.

"When you are playing seven games, you hope it gets tight,'' UT coach Todd Raleigh said. "It's good. I think it is going to make it more competitive because now it's really a best two-out-of-three series. It gets the kids focused on (today), which should be a good matchup on the mound."

Men's Golf: Tennessee improved by seven strokes but only one spot after two rounds of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, being played at the Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesborough.

The Vols, who shot a four-over 292, are ninth at 591, 15 strokes behind leader Wake Forest, which shot a 285.

Tennessee's Chris Paisley made a bigger jump in the individual standings after shooting a second-round 70. At 142, Paisley is tied for fourth with East Tennessee State's Michael Stewart, four strokes behind leader Darren Blair of North Carolina State.

UT's David Holmes shot a 74 and is tied for 37th at 149. Teammate Robin Wingardh also shot a 74 and is tied for 43rd at 150.

Women's Tennis: The Lady Vols advanced a doubles team and a singles player to the quarterfinals of the ITA's Southeast Regional Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Caitlin Whoriskey won a pair of matches, beating Elon's Ana Milian 6-3, 6-2 and North Carolina's Shinann Featherson 6-3, 6-3. Her quarterfinal opponent today could be former Webb School standout Berkeley Brock of North Carolina State.

In doubles, the Lady Vols duo of Maria Sorbello and Rosalia Alda defeated the Furman team of Laura Gioia and Monica Arguello 9-8. Sorbello and Alda will play the No. 2 seeded team of Sanaz Marand and Sophie Grabinski of North Carolina.
