Coverage roundup: The Tide, snail darters and coaches

It's Monday moaning for Vol fans -- at least for those that haven't gone all despondent.

And it's easier to find snail darters than defenders of Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer in East Tennessee. Of course, that's the fate of coaches. Fans are 100 percent behind until, well, they're not.

Enough biology and philosophy, here's our roundup of what bloggers and sports writers are saying today:

You mean some of us Vol fans are not despondent ???

Even those with the most faith are probably questioning it now. If they are not, then I am worried.

Everyone should read this article. Thanks to Hamilton's desire to give a huge and unneccesary contract to Fulmer last year, our hands may be tied. We may have to keep Fulmer because of the financial cost. If all is right with this world, Hamilton has prepared his ridiculous contract for UT. He should have to cough up his salary to pay back the UT athletic department for his poor decision making that allowed this inappropriate contract to happen. Especially when he should never have received a raise last year in the first place.

One rant and I will be done...

We rushed for 36 yds against AL and that was without them having "Mount Cody" in the middle to stop us. We managed 1 yd rushing against UGA. SC has the #1 ranked defense, so what are we to expect Saturday night ?

Frustrated as heck...argh!!!!

GO Vols !!

This logic, coupled with our injuries, and we are screwed, blued and tatooed

I think we can talk about all of this until we're blue in the face. I think Fulmer has had enough of the fans not backing the program. All the Small Mikes of the UT faithful have won out. It's sad that the negative people out there have brought this program down. Not Fulmer. This is why certain schools no matter the coach or players tend to win. Because they are winners all the way around. I just don''t see that at TN. Not any more. WHen i first came here, we were delighted to beat Alabama and have a 8-3 record. We went on to win championships and now we are back to that level. But, we've become a bunch of sore losers with no idea of what winning is and what it takes to win. We went to the SEC championship last year, yet there were many who didn't think Fulmer should return. You know how many schools would have love to have been in the championship game from the SEC East last year? 5 other than TN. They did not make it and we did. However, that's not good enough. I am sick and tired of the fans here whining about not winning and not winning fashionably. It's you that's keeping the top recruits from coming here, not the coaches. I have no idea who will replace Fulmer next year, but i can guarantee you that it won't be anybody but someone who wants to further their career. I guess it's us and Penn State. Now we're out. We're part of the coaching carousel that is plaguing football. This is why they are making us "donate" money for tickets, why they have made the width of the seats shorter, why they have shortened the games so we can get more commercials in there, why they have made the college football experience miserable compared to 5-10 years ago. Now, we're going $8 million in debt to pay off Fulmer only to get somebody who we think can run the show. If he (or she) doesn't work out, then fork over another $8 mil. It's a deadly cycle because fans are going to just stay at home and watch the games on tv. It doesn't matter, because we need more commercial breaks to go walk your lame-assed poodles.

It's not like I really expected our snail darter discourse to become any celebrity cause...but its nice to see the press. After all...my last public appearance is when I foresaw the dread and horrorthat was to become 2005. Now...I have retutrned to usher in the bitter end...

For the record: Darters are easy to find when you know where to look. Just as great players are easy to coach...if you know how to coach...darters are to rivers as bad coaches are to cesspools...they each Phil space...

I haven't played one snap of college football at UT this year so I don't speak for the program. However, as a VASF donor and season ticket holder, I have a personal interest in UT's athletic performance-to-donation ratio, which reflects the return on my investment that pays for the student-athletes' scholarships and coaches' salaries. I also donate to other colleges and universities and hold them accountable for the efficient use of my money, especially during these economic times.

It's time for the state of Tennessee to reorganize the athletic department of the flagship program of the state university system (UTK) before its losing money-making machine (football) forces budget cutbacks that affect such legal requirements as Title IX.

DC_Vol writes:

Country I agree with you. Fulmer can't be blamed for taking the money. Hamilton needs to explain to every one of the UT Fans why he would give his old buddy Fulmer such a lucrative contract. He was already under contract there was simply know reason to sweeten the deal. Furthermore, he will have caused a significant loss to the UT Athletic Department which didn't need to happen. This money was given to him through ticket sales and generous donations by the UT fans. Due to poor logic on his part he decided to waste these generous donations by extending Fulmer's contract unnecessarily. The loss of this money will be felt by the student athletes and the UT fan base for years to come.

I don't guess we'll get a residual check anytime soon.

See Willingham is out at Wash. They stayed the course there way too long.

You sir are an idiot!! I believe you are entitled to your opinion, but in my opinion you are way off base. First I don't get to recruit or coach, so how is it my fault we suck? You are absolutely ridiculous with that post, and as far as I am concerned you can go with Fulmer, Chavis and the rest! What's your address? I will have the U-haul waiting. Some people believe the fans have anything to do with any of it, and they are idiots!! We don't have a say in any of it. If you enjoy what's going on, then shut up and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
