Practices put Lady Vols on the mend

After taking a blow to the head during Saturday's women's basketball practice, Tennessee freshman Shekinna Stricklen was held out of Monday's workout.

Stricklen was joined on the sidelines by fellow freshman Alyssia Brewer, who was feeling sick.

The blow to the head was part of a tough few days for Stricklen. The 6-foot-2 guard banged her right elbow after diving into some chairs during Thursday morning's practice. She's also dealing with the death of her maternal aunt.

Lady Vols sophomore forward Vicki Baugh, meanwhile, took part in some half-court drills Monday. Baugh is recovering from reconstructive surgery on her left knee.

Jenny Moshak, the Lady Vols associate athletic director for sports medicine, reiterated the parameters she discussed last week: practice work is allowable, as long as it doesn't preclude Baugh's weight training.

"Jenny is totally the boss,'' UT coach Pat Summitt said.

Women's Tennis: Tennessee's Caitlin Whoriskey was beaten by Clemson's Josipa Bek 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 Monday in the semifinals of the ITA's Southeast Regional Championship in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Bek went on to win the title, beating Furman's Laura Gioia in the final, 6-2, 7-5.

Will be an interesting season with an interested intense coach.

That's how you win NC's.

Jenny Moshak is absolutely the best trainer. UT is so fortunate to have Jenny and the others helping to condition the girls to play. Add Pat to the coaching and you have potential National Champs. Go Lady Vols and win, win, win...
Go Vols !
