Dominique Allen likes what he’s hearing from LSU’s coaching staff.
The 5-foot-11, 235-pound fullback from Henry County High School in Paris, Tenn., committed to Tennessee in April but has remained in contact with LSU.
Allen took an unofficial visit to LSU during the summer while he was visiting family in Louisiana.
Allen said he has spoken recently to LSU running backs coach Larry Porter and head coach Les Miles.
Allen said Porter and Miles have offered him a chance to play early at LSU.
“They tell me, ‘You could start as a freshman,’ ” Allen said. “They tell me if I’m good enough and the best person they’ve got they’d put me at running back.”
The opportunity to play running back is intriguing to Allen.
He said he watched UT’s 27-24 loss to UCLA on Monday and was disappointed with how the Vols’ offense used its fullback.
“When they moved him up to tight end I didn’t like that too much,” he said.
“I don’t want to play tight end. I wish they would have given the fullback a little more carries.”
Sophomore Kevin Cooper had one carry for one yard at the fullback position against UCLA.
Cooper also tied for the team lead with four receptions.
Allen said he last spoke to UT tight ends coach Jason Michael on Monday before the Vols played UCLA.
Allen said he plans to attend UT’s game against Florida at Neyland Stadium on Sept. 20.
Allen said he wants to visit LSU this fall but hasn’t scheduled a date.
Allen said he wants to see how the Tigers plan to use him in their offense.
“That’s why I’m talking to them now,” Allen said. “They’ve opened my eyes a little bit more. I’m just grateful for them talking to me.”

After Monday's fiasco could you blame him? You see!!! Recruits DO look at these games on PRIME TIME and let that help determine their decisions. Fulmer had better get it together or this could be the first of MANY!!!!

GerryOP writes:
Why do you folks figure that during the off season these kids seem ready to line up to play for Fulmer? Is it because they believe he is a really great coach or because their mamas and daddys are convinced that Fulmer will take good care of their little boys? Baffling.

The Vols have played LSU tough EVERY TIME they play! I seem to remember LSU jumping on us 21 zip only to loose in OT and break the hearts of LSU fans and players after Katrina. There are mountains and valleys in football and even though we had a tough loss Monday I dare say the Tigers will be defanged before you can spit. Get a life, it is a long season and even longer recruiting season.

Toney Williams is listed in the papers here at 6'3" and 211 lbs. I plan to see him play in person at the next home game. My friends that have seen him say he is the real deal. He got his stats against a pretty good team that Milton had not beaten in 10 years.

Do we play 12 games or just one gents? The recruits still have an opportunity to 'KEEP' their commitments verbal though it be or dash their own word and go elsewhere. Time will tell us all. The sky isn't falling, but it looks like the volcano is stirring and could erupt. The unVOL scientist on here are predicting an eruption ruining the whole year based on a very poor performance in one game. Nope haven't had the Koolaid today. I choose to support our team and hopefully we are pleasantly surprised instead of demoralized.

On the other hand I dont blame you for looking at other options after this $hit fest we watched monday night. But be smart about your decision. OMG this is bad. I hope we pull something out of the hat when FL comes into town, if not bye bye to the sweet recruitng class we have based on "verbal" commitments. Why would this kid not consider LSU. They are extremely hot and we are extremely cold. We didnt use the fullback (who could've blocked for our rb's) and didnt use the tight end (warren could've stretched the field). If you wanted to get to the next level TODAY....who would you choose.
Alabaster_Jones writes:
Why do we care? I mean this kid is a fullback, its not like he's an All American Tailback.
Like 1998 said though, I don't blame him at all. The difference in the programs is night and day. LSU right now is on top of college football and we're basically a 2nd program in our conference. With Bama picking up steam, is only a mater of time before we're a constan 3rd place in the East Division

Like i have posted on other stories: I really do not think Fulmer is the problem. We have just as good an offense as anyone, they just need a little time to adjust to all the newness of the past few months. Coach isn't going anywhere (not with the extension he earned), but the defensive staff might be. I would not be suprised if we do not live up to expectations the rest of the season that a change is made in the defensive coaching staff.

You people need to get a life, I bleed orange as much as any of you. It makes me sick to hear some of the things you people say. You talk of opening up the offense well guess what we did Monday night and now you are female doging that we should have run the ball more which I agree with we sould have run the ball more. You complain about Crompton and his lack of inefficiency but if UT had won that game in overtime you people would be talking about how resilient he was. Crompton will be fine and so will UT. This isn't the 90's we are not going to win every game. As far a recruits not wanting to come here because of a Monday night loss I am more worried about them reading some of the ignorant comments by our fans degrading out coaching staff and players. These are 18-22 year old kids I feel they want to win more than anything and so does the coaching staff. You bunch of Monday morning playstation quarterbacks don't know everything because if you did you would be coaching some where. We don't need fans like this it reminds me of Alabama fans. Grow up and get a life.
GerryOP writes:
Yah, Mark (maturner), you're right. It would indeed impress the he11 out of a potential recruit who saw the game Monday night, listened to the commentators question what was going on, and read the denigrating comments and other ridicule in reputable sports publications to come on here and read all of the Vol fans posting about how wonderful everything is in Volland and how happy we are with the performance of the coaching staff. Yup, dude, I'm sure the recruits would be downright impressed!
However, you did make one good point. There is not a single player on our football team that deserves any criticism and I am sure the loss hurt them more than it hurts us. However, I am confident every kid contributed the maximum effort and executed exactly what they were coached. Foster has lost fumbles in other critical situations but in four years the coaches have not corrected this problem. Crompton did indeed look like a deer in the headlights but the first hit he took Monday night was probably the first hit he had taken in 6 months. Cunningham has been punting for UT for a couple of years and the coaches did not correct his technique to prevent blocks. The O-line is more experienced than any O-line we have had in years but the coaches have not taught them how to prevent an all out assault on the punter. Crompton has been known as a running and scrambling QB but the coaches have stressed that he is not to risk injury by scrambling and running like Tebow did last year. (If you look at the last two O-series in regulation time, you can see what Crompton can do.) For years we have seen how our D-coaches believe in the soft/prevent defense and I am sure it POs our D-players when they are forced into playing like that. (And, even after Monday, Slade is still stubbornly defending this approach!)
But, yup, Mark, even though our playing weaknesses are obvious and commented on by the entire college football world, us fan posters should not say anything negative because a potential recruit might read it. You should really be more worried about the recruits reading some of the comments the coaches make! You do remember things like perfect storm, pixie dust, didn't know that Hardesty did not play, surprised us with their speed?
Vol13 writes:
I never will forget last year when I posted that "I don't know how good UT will be this year." Minutes later, someone PM'ed me claiming to be Tyrelle Pryor and said he was dropping UT from his list because he "thought that I was overly negative." I tried to PM him later in the year and ask if he saw the Florida or Bama games? I urged him to buy our remaining PPV games or tune in on Lincoln Financial if he could get up that early. No response. I feel bad now for my terrible attitude.

tngeoff, I think the only hope we have is if Pennington or Adams writes a scathing column about the legend. That usually gets his tail in a knot and the guys go out and kick some butt on the field. Also gives the lemmings something else unimportant to whine and babble about.
Do you s'pose a poor showing against UAB would wake anyone up? Nawww, all we'd hear is that it's only one game, the refs botched it, was really just a tuneup, UAB was underrated, and it wasn't an SEC game anyway ... and the great one would tell us how much madder he is.
