Change is coming to the daily lineup of Knoxville radio's only all-sports station.
Monday, nationally syndicated program, "The Jim Rome Show" will be replaced by a new local program on The Sports Animal on WNML-AM 990/FM 99.1, 99.3. "SportsTalk with John and Josh," will run from noon to 3 p.m. each weekday, with John Pennington and Josh Ward.
"The Jim Rome Show" had aired on WNML since the station switched to its all-sports format in 2005.
"Our goal is to continue to cover national stories in a fast-paced format, but now we've got the ability to also cover local sports, Tennessee news in that lunchtime slot," said Pennington.
"For example, (UT football coach) Phillip Fulmer's press conferences will air live every Tuesday during our show, which gives us the first opportunity to discuss the coach's points, live."
"SportsTalk with John and Josh," will lead listeners directly into the 20-year-old "SportsTalk with John and Jimmy," featuring John Wilkerson and Jimmy Hyams.
"Josh and I look at ourselves as set-up men for those guys," Pennington said. "We want to have a constantly moving show that features national news, then SEC news, then UT talk, then a call or two, followed by an interview with a former player or SEC journalist. Then we start back at the top of the list.
"Over the three-hour show, we think folks will get a good overview of everything going on in the sports world. Then we'll turn it over to John and Jimmy for their unmatched coverage of UT sports and their unique fan forum."
Ward hosts "Monday Night Vols," "Prep Sports Tonight," and "Saturday SportsTalk" on WNML.
Pennington hosts "The Hall's Salvage Sports Source" on WATE, runs the Web site MrSEC.com, and also contributes to The News Sentinel as a guest columnist.
