Chanelle Price had a strong debut for Tennessee's women's cross-country team Friday.
The Lady Vols freshman led her team and was eighth overall in the Belmont Opener in Nashville. Price covered the 4,000-meter Vaughn's Creek Course at Percy Warner Park in 14 minutes, 52.67 seconds. She led UT to second place with 83 points.
Vanderbilt was led by individual winner Rita Jorgenson (14:23.32) and won with 44 points.
"It's nice to see Chanelle Price run such a competitive race in her first collegiate event,'' Lady Vols coach J.J. Clark said. "We'll build on that and look forward to seeing what happens in the future."
Among Tennessee's top five were Phoebe Wright, who finished 12th (15:10.78), Rolanda Bell, who was 14th (15:14.94) and Brittany Sheffey, who finished 15th (15:15.18).
The Lady Vols ran without seniors Sarah Bowman and Katie Van Horn and junior Jackie Areson. Clark decided to hold out those runners.
Volleyball: Tennessee (3-1) lost its opening match at the University of Denver Pioneer Classic to Iowa 18-25, 25-27, 25-22, 22-25.
Iowa (2-2) was led by Catherine Smale, who had 21 kills.
Nikki Fowler and Kylie Marshall each had 10 kills for UT.
