Fulmer: Clawson will stay upstairs
Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer said he has no plans to move first-year offensive coordinator Dave Clawson to the sidelines, where he was stationed as Fordham and Richmond's coach from 1999 to 2007.
"I'm comfortable with Dave," Fulmer said. "Dave's a good communicator upstairs and sees well and knows what's going on well.
"If he was downstairs, you'd say he should be upstairs. I can't win that one."
Warren Report: The Vols had every intention of getting sophomore tight end Brandon Warren more involved in the passing game in the opener against UCLA.
The Bruins had every intention of preventing that from happening.
"They made you throw the ball outside quite a bit," Fulmer said, referring to UCLA's double coverage on inside receivers.
Warren had one catch for five yards in the loss to UCLA.
"He'll get a lot of balls over the year, I'm certain," Fulmer said of the former Alcoa High School star.
Sophomore tight end Luke Stocker had only one catch for 11 yards.
Gerald's Game: Fulmer said junior college transfer Gerald Williams is seeing practice time at linebacker and defensive end.
Williams didn't play against UCLA after being deemed eligible just day s before the game after missing a week of practice awaiting clearance.
Full Go: One of the few bright spots on offense against UCLA was sophomore fullback Kevin Cooper, who had four catches for 27 yards. Cooper has already matched the number of catches he had last season (4) and surpassed his total yardage (19) from 2007.
"He played exceptionally well blocking, protecting - and the few routes that he had - route running," Fulmer said. "(He) caught the ball well, played well in the special teams. Had a good game."
