Former Tennessee softball pitcher Monica Abbott said she was flying back from the Beijing Olympics when she decided it was payback time.
"As I came back to the States, I was thinking I really wanted to do something to give back," said Abbott, who delivered three victories to help the United States to a silver medal.
The product is the Monica Abbott All-Star Softball Clinic, which will be held 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Caswell Park.
"I never had the opportunity as a child to see an Olympian play or meet an Olympian," said Abbott, during a media event announcing the clinic Tuesday at Caswell Park. "That is why I felt I had to do this. I had to be able to reach out and be someone who is real to them. Not just a face on TV."
The left-hander did not allow an earned run in 24 innings during the Olympics while posting a 3-0 record with 33 strikeouts. She also pitched a five-inning, perfect game.
Abbott has returned to Knoxville this fall to take the one class to complete her degree in communications.
She said another Olympian will be on hand for the clinic but is keeping who that teammate will be a secret.
The clinic is open to players age 8 to 18 and of all skill levels. Cost Is $125.
