Lady Vols set to start play in SEC volleyball

The Tennessee volleyball team closes out its first homestand of the season by opening SEC play this weekend at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Lady Vols (5-4), who won two matches last weekend at the Lady Vol Comcast Classic, play Mississippi State (5-6) at 7 tonight.

Kentucky (7-2) visits at 1:30 Sunday.

Although sophomore Nikki Fowler, who made the all-tournament team last week, is leading UT, the freshmen are making an impact. Setter Kelsey Mahoney is second on the team in assists (164) and middle blocker Alyssa Hilby has started four matches.

UT's volleyball and soccer teams will participate in the SEC's "Together We Can Drive" this weekend. Any fan donating two non-perishable food items will be admitted free.

Soccer: The Lady Vols (2-5) are back at Regal Soccer Stadium to conclude the non-conference portion of its schedule against Western Carolina at 7 tonight.

The Lady Vols are coming off a pair of losses on the West Coast last week.

Basketball: Tennessee's men's and women's teams will hold open workouts Saturday at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Vols will practice from 10-11 a.m. and then scrimmage for an hour.

The Lady Vols will go from noon to 1 p.m. with some scrimmaging involved.

The workouts are open to the public.
