Add the word "made" between "what" and "this", please.

knoxsingle, I'm sure Kaplan will have the bugs worked out before too long. Or maybe, revert to the old???

GVX: I may be in the minority. (I usually am) I liked the old site. Hope things work out and everyone has a good time. So long. It's been good to know ya!

If you are still having issues with comments, please leave a message in the comments section or go here:

Let us know what browser and what machine you are using. We are attempting to troubleshoot issues with different browsers and operating systems.

The comments should load now.

We had a glitch earlier that prevented people who used govolsxtra.com (without the www) from seeing comments. Some extra tweaking and now the comments work for both.

CoverOrange writes:

Jig, seems to have cleared up for me at the moment, (IE v6.0, PC).

What I object to is the paging system. Now you can't scroll through the entire list to find a comment but must search page by page waiting for each load. Oh, and if you click a link provided in a post then try to come "Back", you go to page 1, not necessarily where you were.

Hi TurboFan.

Glad to know it's working well. The pagination will allow for GVX to load rapidly. I think after a day or two, you'll appreciate how fast the site loads.

But let us know if you face any more technical issues.

Jigsha, now the first letter of every line is being eaten by the invisible left margin.

More tech-head showing off. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Just like a politician who has nothing to do if he/she doesn't make even more intrusive laws, or an administrator who isn't "working" unless they come up with more trivia for the line personnel to deal with, IT types aren't "working" unless they come up with some new gadget, whether anyone said they needed it or not. As I said before in reference to my difficulty accessing the UTsports.com audio feed after a format change, this is like an annoying five-year-old who wants to stand in front of you to show how he/she can recite the alphabet backwards while you are trying to watch a game. Guess I'm just an out-of-touch old fogey who doesn't appreciate that everything "new" is "better", the way the ad people say I should(;-P)!

I like it - good up date. I especially like the comments "turn off" feature. Suggestion: would/could you add a feature that allows individual user name turn off? I enjoy and benefit from most of the posts on here, even the negative comments that are based on reality, but, there are a predictable few that are totally inane and irrevalent that are usually from the same posters.

Much better format. Love it. Kudos to all involved.

I'll have to study the film before commenting.

UTvols12342000 writes:

they only do this because now you have to click a new link to go from page to page in the comments. Thus increasing the number of "hits" on their site. puke. I like being able to scroll an entire set of comments at once without clicking links and moving every 20 comments or so. annoying. and all just so they have more (fake) hits on the site.

I second the comment about allowing a "turn off" feature for certain posters. Just as I can block email from my inbox, I would like to block those posters who have nothing to contribute except saying how bad the Vols are. Those idiots are such a downer.

Hi John,

When we're getting a lot of comments (like 700-800 in one day) it puts a lot of strain on our site and causes the whole site to slow down.

We experienced this when John Adams wrote his column on changing coaches in February. Once his story was posted, the site slowed down immensely due to many people trying to read a story that had 700-800 comments associated with it.

I think you'll like this new feature once you're used to it.

I hate this new format.

What are you trying to do, give us all Karpal Tunnel Syndrome?

I liked the single page format, being able to read hundreds of comments.

Furthermore, if you refresh, say, page 5, it takes you back to page one. Then you have to click back to page 5. If you click on an offsite link, then hit the back button to return to the thread, you're back to page one no matter what page you were on before.

I used to routinely copy/paste comment pages and email them to myself for rereading later. It was easy to do with a one page format.

I agree with whoever said, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Jeez.

This new way makes postin more difficult b/c you have to re navigate back to last comment everytime you post something

TommyJack writes:

jigsha: It would be friendlier if a refresh would take you back to the page you were on...not to the start. IMO

Then why not limit each page to 100 comments (or whatever number keeps the page loading managable) and leave it to US to click the the next or final page of comments?

In "solving" a problem that you, admittedly, only experience occasionally, you've created a constant problem for a lot of your customer base. I use the only 2 browsers that work with my system. NOW (that you've solved your problem) one will not display ANY comments, and the other cuts the left margin off so that I can't read the articles! I can't even read the first 10 letters of each line I'm typing right now! Heck, I can't even tell if I'm logged on!!

Please listen to us and understand--you are good at what you do, but as a former web designer, trust me... effective technical solutions are seldom effective CUSTOMER solutions. Design to make your site accessible to the oldest possible browser in order to increase hits.

Oh, and I was finally able to post this by going back to the browser on which I cannot see any comments in order to post this comment. How many advertisements do you think I'll stop to check out going through THIS process everytime? (Now, back to the other browser to see if this posted...)
