1. Get Physical: Tennessee needs an imposing presence from its offensive line, one of the best and most experienced in the SEC. If those five can get a surge up front, the Vols will be able to run effectively, always a key. If not, it’ll be another long (and one-dimensional) day against the Gators.
2. Stay Committed: UT has strayed from the run in years past against Florida, some of which has been dictated by the score. The Vols, though, need to stay committed to running even if they fall behind by a score or two in the first half. Running in the first and second quarter often pays its dividends in the third and fourth.
3. Stay at Home: Florida’s offense is designed to make fast defenses, like UT’s, slower. By staying disciplined on defense, the Vols can avoid getting gaped by the spread. The Gators will get a few plays, but by sticking with their assignments and not over-pursuing, UT will have a better chance.
4. Be Protective: This one works on two fronts, and they go hand in hand. UT must limit its turnoves on offense to have a chance. It also must protect quarterback Jonathan Crompton, whose right ankle won’t stand for a lot of abuse. With little pressure, Crompton can be much, much more effective throwing the ball.
5. Keep Out (of Bounds): Florida return specialist Brandon James has made plenty of teams look foolish. The Vols should consider kicking out of bounds and not take their chances. Even a punt shorter by 5 or 10 yards is better than James taking one to the end zone.

The Vols have to force the Gators to sell out to stop the run. And when they do, they have to execute and hit some big plays. And other than that just pray special teams aren't a deciding factor in this game.

If we can just run well enough to keep the LB's and the safety's near the line of scrimmage, we might get some big plays over the middle to Brandon Warren.

Had to read the copy to understand the "Keep Out (of bound)". Thought it meant just don't go on the field or something?!?

1) Duh
2) Against 8 & 9 men in the box? Crompton will have to throw the ball to make the defenders back off the line. Then we can run to make the safeties play tentatively to open up the deep routes. It will take a complete effort/gameplan to win, not just beat our heads against a wall to prove that we didn't abandon the run.
3) Our defense should be dictating their offense, not the other way around. Reactionary coaching by definition always puts you a step behind what the other team is doing.
4) Really? The point of pass protection is protecting the quarterback?
5) Only really insightful point of the five, and reports so far are that Cunningham does have some good directional control so far.
I think he meant gashed by the offense.

Ever heard of a gaping hole?
To gape is to open wide or spread out. To be gaped would be to spread yourself out too thin, i.e. the concept of the Spread Offense as it relates to spreading out a defense which opens lanes of attack.

Here are my five(5)
1. Execute your assignment, play within yourselves & keep your composure, don't beat yourselves.
2. Take some chances defensively early with blitzs and try to create some turovers and short fields for our offense. This "O" group struggles to put 10-12 play drives together.
3. Tell Crompton its OK to throw the ball away - just don't take a sack - period! Punting is not a bad outcome for us in this game. Jon - hint its 1001,1002,1003, throw it!
4. In the right circumstances - trick plays are good. Run at least one a half. But don't force one. Take the big play if its there otherwise just waste the down.
5. Win the special teams game - if that means kicking out of bounds so be it. But really what this means is out hussle and out hit Florida. Most often the team playing the hardest wins on special teams.

Jason I don't think we will have to force Fla to sell out to stop the run. The Fla coaches believe they can put 8 in the box and cover UT receivers in man on man. If we are going to win our Receivers must beat man coverage

Good point about the "box" sjt18. If we get a push up the middle and force Tebow to run a "belly" around out penetration, it gives our defenders that extra step to catch him.

Is there any chance at all that Clawson & Fulmer have "saved" some things offensively for the Gators? If not, I don't see any real difference between what we're running now and what Walt Harris brought to K-town in the early 80's. Of course Cutcliff believed it was more about execution than schemes and that is true, but I really thought we were going to get a changing of the guard on "O" and its just not happened so far.

#6: Use a number of different blitz packages and get into Tebows head. GA did it=win, MI did it = win, Auburn and LSU did it=win and even Miami did it with a defense less experienced than UT and it limited his abilities.
Hit him hard
Hit him low
and HIT HIM OFTEN
If UT can get into the backfield it messes up the spread big time. Clean Harvins clock at the point of the hand off and he will think about it the rest of the game. Disrupt Tebows timming by getting into his face and making him pick himself up off the ground every chance you get.
