Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer said former Maryville High School star Aaron Douglas will undergo surgery on his left shoulder and is expected to redshirt this season. Douglas had reconstructive surgery on his other shoulder last March.
The freshman tight end fought to return to action this fall and practiced for most of this month before it was determined he would need to undergo another procedure. It is unknown if the surgery will need to be arthoscopic or reconstructive.
Offensive lineman Vladimir Richard practiced Thursday. He has been limited this week with a sore knee.
Tight end Jeff Cottam is expected to return to practice Tuesday or Wednesday. The junior had back surgery before the season.

We don't have much luck with tight ends.

When we lose to Auburn on Saturday, can we THEN start talking about a new head coach? I mean, at what point will we find the straw that broke the camel's back? Would 7-5 do it? 6-6?
I would love a shot at Butch Davis, but all this Skip Holtz talk makes me wanna hurl.

You have to give Coach Tresell lot of credit. Ohio state loses one game to the best team in america, benches his starting QB, and plays a true freshman. He announced that he is starting Pryor.
You have to lot the character and Attitude of their coach.
On a different note- what ever happened to wilks? Suppose to be a great WR. Lord Knows nobody is doing shet except
Jones.

Speaking of Tressel, some tOSU fans are calling for his head.

I digress. Regarding the subject of this article, putting Brandon Warren would alleviate most of our problems at TE.

If not Butch Davis, what about Jim Grobe at Wake Forest?
In living over here, I've watched him whenever I can. He's down-to-earth, disciplined (his roots apparently go back to the Air Force Academy) and recruits the kind of guys needed to win.
You never hear of any Wake players getting into trouble. If you can recruit and win at Wake, I bet he could do a whole lot more at a place like Tennessee.

I hate to break the fire Fulmer bubble folks but unless he retires he will be back.
The cost of firing Fulmers is about 35 MILLION and the university does not have that kind of free cash to spend. They are still paying 2 former B-ball coaches off.
I think we need a change as much as anyone but you have to face the facts. Fulmer's contract has a lot of money in it that he will receive even if he is fired. You can blame M.H. for that along with the big money boosters that approved it.
All the petitions in the world wont change it either.
So inless he decides to step down and retire we have what we have. It is what it is.
BigVolinCarolina writes:
DennisVols, where are you getting the $35M number?
I'd heard that it was in the $5M range for a buyout...where am I off?
DennisVols writes:
It is 5 Million a year for 7 yrs to pay Fulmer 's contract of he gets fired.
Throw in the fact that Thorton and Haslem love him into that and it just isn't going to happen.
The rest of us together don't donate as much as those 2 do.
ETownVol writes:
"The formula for a university buyout as a result of terminating Fulmer's contract remains the same as previous years: Fulmer's base pay multiplied by the years remaining on his contract plus one year of TV/radio appearance fees, equipment and apparel fees and endorsement/appearance fees and an additional $1 million."
Copied and pasted from a previous article on GVX. Saw a copy of his contract somewhere with the specifics but can't find it now. No way it's $35 mil.

Good luck, Aaron. Be patient with your rehab. We look forward to seeing you back out there next year.

ETown, what you found is exactly what I had read--and I think we're right.
Folks may be upset that Fulmer isn't already fired, but it doesn't make sense that UT would pay him $5M per year (for 7 years) to leave when he's only getting a little more than half of that as head coach. Haslam and Thornton are businessmen, but I'd be very surprised (from a pure business standpoint) that they'd back that kind of buyout.
I think his buyout is roughly $5M total.

not like he would have saw the field this year.

I too live near Wake and have great admiration for what Grobe has done there. I love his approach to recruiting and the way he develops his mostly under-the-radar talent. However, I would be amazed if he came to UT. He brought Wake up from virtually nothing, but he had losing records three out of his first four years there. He wouldn't likely have that kind of time to turn UT around and he doesn't have much of a reputation for recruiting the kind of athletes needed to win in the SEC. He was also lucky enough to make his rise in arguably the weakest of the BCS conferences. I would LOVE to see us hire Grobe, but only if he gets the kind of job security he would need to turn it around at UT. Frankly, I would be surprised if he took on such a huge challenge. He is a hero at Wake; he would be an unknown at UT with no built-in constituency, hence no reservoir of good-will to tide him over until he starts winning--i.e., "he ain't one of our'n".
BigVolinCarolina writes:
Though I'd love to see us get Grobe, I think your analysis is right since "he ain't one of our'n".
I think this is a time that going outside of the "UT family" would help our program. The main problem I see with staying "in the UT family" is this: who do we have in the pipeline?
No one worthy of being Head Coach comes to mind...
johnlg00#206211 writes:
I agree that we should go "outside the family" for our next hire, BVnC. As you suggest, the Fulmer coaching tree doesn't have many forks! That is the downside of blind loyalty. Grobe would be a great hire, IMHO, but I'm pretty sure he is smart enough not to jump into the snakepit that is UT right now, with no "orange" in his pedigree.

Why isn't Warren playing a lot more than he is? He's only caught a couple of passes this whole year. Stocker has dropped more passes than they've thrown to Warren.
