Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer said Sunday night that he will miss his Tuesday news conference and perhaps practice later in the day to attend the funeral of a family friend, Skip Carr, in St. Petersburg, Fla.
“I can count on one hand the times that I’ve missed practice in 30 years for anything,” Fulmer said. “I’m certain my friend would understand if I didn’t go. But I need to be there for my wife and for my children.”
Fulmer described Carr, 64, as “a great friend and a great mentor,” died Friday of a heart attack.

This upholds everything (even the rumors) I've ever heard about Coach Fulmer, the person. Seems in life, he continues to make the right decisions. Our prayers are with you and all involved.

...one less day to evaluate the QB situation...but despite that tacky comment it's the right decision none the less.

The loss of a good friend and paying respect to that person takes priority over most anything I can think of. Your place is in Florida.

I wish we had as many positive comments about this story as negative comments about our QB/Coaching situation.
God bless your family, as well as that of your friend's, Coach Fulmer. We'll see you on the field later in the week.

Coach Fulmer it is important that you be there for your family and your friend's family. God Bless.

Not meaning disrespect to the deceased, but I hope Fulmer stays in Florida. Since he will be gone, I bet the practice will be the best we've had in years. Maybe a little improvement will be made!!

GREAT POST , READ IT AND THAT IS TRULY WHAT WE ALL NEED TO HAVE IN OUR FIRST TWO IN OUR LIFES ,
UTTuba writes:
This is one reason I hate to see Fulmer fail on the field. Hes such a great uy and just an overall good person. UT may end up with a better football coach but will never have a coach that cares as much for this university and is just an overall good person.

I agree with showing respect and I know going to the funeral is the right thing to do. But on the lighter side, I'll pay the airfare as long as it's not a roundtrip ticket.
Madkels writes:
B4 you all condemn me, I do feel for the Carr family and know that Fulmer is a class act. So save your condemnations, please!
BigOrangeVol writes:
Condolences to the Carr family as well as the Fulmer's. Carr was the chairman, president and chief executive of Cornerstone Community Bank in St. Petersburg. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather as well as a devout Christian.
Once again we have infantile posters that show their asinine and classless nature. By the way, the word is “pompous” not pompass. Maybe utilizing words you can spell and comprehend their meaning would be advisable so you don’t look like a absolute moron.
