Patrick ties mark for coaching wins

Tennessee volleyball coach Rob Patrick reached a victory milestone Sunday.

With the Lady Vols' 25-19, 25-19, 25-19 SEC victory at Georgia, Patrick recorded his 229th victory at UT, tying him with Bob Bertucci as the winningest coach in program history.

The victory in Athens, Ga., was Tennessee's first road win in conference play on a Sunday since Sept. 24, 2006, ending a streak of seven consecutive losses.

"The team did a very good job of following the game plan today,'' Patrick said. "One thing that our team has done very well defensively is defending the outside hitters. We were able to do that again today. The other thing that I was very pleased with was our serve-and-pass game. We did a great job of putting pressure on Georgia with our tough serving and pass-reception efficiency was outstanding."

Nikki Fowler and Milan Clarke each had 13 kills for Tennessee (8-5, 3-1 SEC). Fowler also had 10 digs.

Chloe Goldman had 20 digs, her season high for a three-game match. UT also had a season-high nine service aces.

"Milan set the tone for our team today,'' Patrick said. "She provided us with many point-serving swings without making very many errors. Nikki was also outstanding."

Soccer: The Lady Vols' struggles continued with a 5-1 loss at No. 16 Florida. The lossed dropped UT to 3-7, 0-2 to start SEC play.

For Florida (7-2-1, 2-0 SEC), the defending conference champions, it was the Gators' first victory over Tennessee since 2004.

Gators midfielder Ameera Abdullah set the tone by scoring the match's first two goals.

Tennessee's goal came in the 64th minute on a penalty kick by Kylee Rossi. It was Rossi's fifth goal of the season and put her four points away from breaking the school's all-time scoring record.

Women's Tennis: UT's Samantha Orlin and Zsofia Zubor finished off the weekend by winning singles titles in the fifth and six flights, respectively, at the Furman Fall Classic.

Orlin has won five consecutive matches in fall play while Zubor has won four in a row.

Women's Golf: Tennessee shot a final-round 305 and finished 16th with a team score of 911 at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship in Franklin.

Third-ranked UCLA won with a team score of 850.

"We were in over our heads with the field this week,'' Lady Vols coach Judi Pavon said. "But our girls worked hard out there and gave a good effort."

Diana Cantu was UT's top finisher at 221, tied for 23rd.

Men's Tennis: UT freshman Christian Hansen finished with three straight singles victories at the UVA Invitational.

Congratulations to Rob Patrick. He took Lady Vol volleyball to the Final Four, which should have resulted in a lifetime contract for him. This is one sport at UT whose coach we don't have to worry about. We could not be in better hands.

Meanwhile, I'm having doubts about UT women's soccer.
