Thrift, who was All-Amercian sprinter, dies

Carroll Thrift, an All-American sprinter at the University of Tennessee in the 1960s, died Sunday in Orlando, Fla., after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mr. Thrift ran at UT from 1965-67 and earned SEC titles and All-America honors in the 4x100 relay for coach Chuck Rohe's SEC champion squads.

Mr. Thrift lived in Knoxville until 1996. He is survived by wife Patty and children Gwynna and Spencer.

A celebration of Carroll’s life will be held on April 24 at Leu Gardens in the Native Wetlands Garden.
