The University of Memphis basketball program is on a losing streak.
First the Tigers lost Coach John Calipari to Kentucky.
Now Bruce Pearl has made it clear that he prefers to coach at the University of Tennessee rather than Memphis despite a bank-breaking offer from the Tigers — a reported seven-year, $21 million contract.
Pearl to Memphis: Thanks, but no thanks.

Pearl Was never even called for the Memphis job. Some CA reporters taking a guess you guys on this site schould know how these papers get their story wrong. Pearl is a great coach who just had players give up on him and the program get rid of them not him. I love UT football but my heart in basketball belongs to Memphis, and much like when we gave the championship away in 08 we are devestated again by the Lies and unethical ways of a greedy coach that not only is leaving the program after securing the poss best recruiting class ever but pretended to agonize over the descision only so he could buy time to lure those same recruits to KY and some of our existing players(rules prohibit contact once you leave as coach). You guys have in Pearl a man of his word we as it turns out did not even have a man!

C'mon people . . . UT is a football school no matter what. Kiffin will be bringing the stars back into alignment for us in the next few seasons and mens basketball will reassume its irrelevant role in Knoxville. Pearl should have jumped on any Memphis offer. Knoxville will never be anything more than a stepping stone for a b-ball coach worth his salt.
I love the recent resurgence as much as any Vol fan . . but I've loved it a lot more cause there has been such a let down on the grid iron. Don't really care for the Tigers but would rather see them get Pearl than some PAC-10 school.
