Whether University of Tennessee men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl decided to stay in Knoxville or leave for Memphis, his ex-wife seems to be doing just fine where she is.
Less than five months after opening a hair and nail salon in West Knoxville, Kim Shrigley is already expanding.
Shrigley, who opened Alimony's Hair and Nail Salon last November, is more than doubling her space to about 2,300 square feet from 950 square feet. She is adding a full-service spa that will include facials, waxing and massages. She's also putting in another pedicure chair and two additional nail stations.
"It's quite a big jump. We outgrew this site very quickly, and the space next door was available," said Shrigley, who recently finished painting the new space herself.
Shrigley funded her business at 7115 Kingston Pike with money from her divorce from Pearl, who was considered a top contender for a vacancy at the University of Memphis. The salon is decorated in bright green colors with black decor. The business's name, Alimony's, is written on the store front with green cursive and a red heart on top of the "i."
A nurse by profession, Shrigley in June dreamed up the idea of a salon because it would allow her flexibility to care for her two younger children. She and Pearl also have two older children.
"It's great," she said. "It's fun, all good stuff."
The spa is expected to be open in about 10 days with a grand opening slated for May 4.

Is she up to Layla Kiffin's standards?
I knew that Kiff was the man for the job the first time I saw a picture of Layla. Face it - he can recruit and understands talent!

I don't know whether Tennessee is a community property state or not, but I'm betting that Shrigley's divorce attorney made sure that everytime CBP gets a raise, she does, too! SAVol

This is not a sports article, why is it on GoVolsXtra? It is more properly located in the Life section of the paper or as a personal interest story on the local news. I have nothing against Pearl's ex, but I go to this page for sports.

Really Usually it is Gator fans baiting us. Their sites have plenty of news but their fans do not get as involved. Gators you are bored that is why you are here. Go Vols

Not a sports story. Not a lifestyle story. Not a business story. If you justify this crapola with "it's tied to CBP who MAY have been offered another job", what about the gas station where CBP filled up the car? How about a story on the haberdashery where he buys his clothes? What about sales in his favorite beer store?
And "journalists" wonder why their business model is failing miserably! As long as you KNS hacks report "stories" that fit your agenda, readers will continue to leave in droves.

This article must have had some interest here, otherwise none of you would be posting on this particular article. You all took the time to read it when the head line told the whole story. There is a relationship with Pearl. That's why the article is here and that is why we have all these stupid posts here, including mine.

Ditto. Typical laziness from a reporter who couldn't find anything else to do yesterday. Sort of like Channel 5 in Memphis.

Where do you find good-looking _______ in Knoxville (thymes with 'lookers', starts with 'h')???
We all want to know, so please fill in the details. It will help the Knoxville biz climate.

She chose a tacky name to get some attention. She has a complicit newspaper who gives her ink ONLY because she is Pearl's ex. She's hiring stylists and others who have a client following, so it's growing. But, these people move like nomads, never being happy for long in one place. Check back in a year or two.
As for Coach Pearl, take the high road. Be happy for your ex's success, be happy in your own life and hope that with both of those together you make your kids happy. Attitude is the one thing we control every day of our lives. Sometimes a smile and happy attitude in the face of a bitter ex makes 'em madder than anything.

This article is about someone previously associated and part of the family at UT being given recognition for moving ahead. Whats wrong with that.... Too many readers and posters here have a one way swinging door when it comes to reading anything except the funnies... Broaden your scope folks, and then when one of the atheletic teams stumps their toe you will be more inclined to understandingl.

Does this article in any way, shape, form, or fashion have anything to do with the University of Tennessee??? I think not.
This really is NOT something I want to read about on this website. And I'm sure that most on here would agree!!
Please keep it to UT related topics; preferably sports related.

Congrats to the Knoxville News-Sentinel. You have finally overtaken them. You are now officially the spiritual descendant of the Knoxville Urinal, er, ah Journal. You have become the thing you thought you were so much better than.
So glad you cover the big news....the gossipy, smarmy, trashy, tacky story of Bruce and his ex. So glad you don't cover those nothing stories like what really goes on in TVA's boardroom or what Haslam becoming Governor would really mean to Tennessee.
If Miss Thing was a real reporter covering business, she'd at least be doing op-ed pieces on Pilot Oil. Thank God she can just do her "business" stores from the SOCIETY DESK, where gossip columns belong.

By the way, Kim, just a few questions:
What do the kids think of Alimony? Do they think it's cute, campy? Are the two young ones thrilled that you spend so much quality time with them now that you've given up nursing? Also, what's with the nursing deal? Do you still do that part time or did you just declare that major in college because you needed one? And, oh yeah, remember those things you said about Kentucky when someone asked you about living in the South? I remember. I was just wondering how kosher it feels to you to be living in Tennessee and acting like hillbilly, trailer trash?

KNS needs a SUGGEST REMOVAL link for articles. This one has no place here.
On the flip side, I see no reason to attack Bruce's ex, as some posters have. If the newspaper offered you free publicity for your business, would you turn it down? Can't say that I would.
