Is that the sound of you drinking the cool-aid?

Judging by the fact the handoff still seems to be an issue, I'd say not great.

One of the QB candidates is going to have to put on their "big boy" pants and step up in a major way. If JC needs to look at film to figure out he can't throw worth a phooey, then he needs to ride the pine because he ain't got it upstairs to be the QB. So far, it looks like BJ may have the edge in consistency, all he needs to be able to do now is lead the team.

Not a very fair poll. Choice goes from struggling to have a winning season to winning the SEC Championship. I think we will be an 8-4 or 9-3 team. Probably not good enough for a conference championship but a great improvement from last years team. We will be much more physical on offense and continue with excellent defense. Plus we will play defense on third down too.

GO VOLS

Who needs QB's? I say we teach the RB's to throw these short passes and direct snap every down. Run 90% of the time and catch them off guard the other 10%. 2 tight ends and a blocking back every down.

I think it's great that the fans from all these other teams go to bed and then wake back up thinking about Lane Kiffin.

QB position alone will cost us at least 3 SEC wins this season.

I am thankful for fall practice.

Into the full-fledged doldrums we go.

Time to start on the Grey Goose kool-ade.

What worries me is what will we do if the offense can't pound the ball via the run? Will they stick to their game plan and continue to wear them out until the 4th qtr. (a la the Nebraska teams of the past), or will Chaney panic and start putting the ball in the air more than he should? We have the deepest stable of running backs we've had in a very long time (even without Creer). I'd like to see Poole, Hardesty and Williams (possibly Brown) pound them, then put the speedsters in (Brown and Oku) and take it to the house. If we can move the chains enough throughout the first and middle parts of the game, this will work, but if it doesn't, whomever the QB is will have to play well enough for us to win.

We had a good defense last season with the glaring exception of 3rd down efficiency. Fixing that alone and playing just a tad better than we did on 1st and 2nd down will result in an extra win or 2.

Kicking game and special teams improvements will help us win games too.

The bottom line is that I'm looking for us to be the type/style of team this season I hope falls between our 1998 team and Tampa's Super Bowl team. I think this is where our strengths currently are. That style will work...we wont put a boatload of points on the board, but neither will they...

...who knows, LOL...might see some 11 to 5 games this season!

I have asked why the KNS hasn't eliminated Butch. I have figured out that he is one of them and they won't because it helps improve the post count. Nobody besides one of hte KNS staff can post such worthless comments routinely and stay on here.

On the subject of the team, it's about what I figured. There are lots of old habits that need to be broken and it will take more than one spring and one season to get that done and get a new attitude in the program. (And more than one season to upgrade the talent level which, in fact, is down. Especially at QB.) Anybody that doesn't understand that is just being unreasonable or has an axe to grind and therefore is not worth listening to.

If they just show some progress this fall, I'll be happy. And progress would be defined as fewer stupid penalties, better blocking by the O line, better organization and not looking confused half the time, a defense that doesn't consistently allow first downs on 3rd and 20, etc. Simple things like that. (Also, staying within 20 of Florida would be progress. Let's face facts. Florida will be good again and we're playing down there. Got to be realistic.)

What is wrong with our quarterbacks, I have a 10 year grandson who can hand the ball off without fumbling and hit a 5 yard pass! This is crazy!

The one time Gerald Jones threw the ball last season, Brandon Warren dropped it.

Actually, that sounds like a damned good strategy.... except it probably would only be effective for a couple of games then the rest of the world would figure out how to defense our 1-dimensional offense and we would be back where we started. Consistant winning in the SEC, just like in the pros, demands a better-than-"compentant" QB.

We can always quick kick on 3rd down and pin the other team back. Then hope for a turnover and score with a short field.
Majors would be proud, maybe he suggested that when he visited....

The number of deleted posts from Butch should tell the KNS why he needs to be eliminated. Hasn't contributed a worthwhile comment since he's been on here.

The Quick Kick!.... Ah, yes. Dinosaur that I am, I admit longing to see that strategy of ultimate defensive confidence used again. It worked for UT many many times in Major's day. Why not now? If nothing else, it was great fun trying to quess when any team was going to use it.

Remember Bobby Majors? That was one of his favorite plays. Made some spectacular runs in crucial situations too, if I recall.

Having seen a ton of QB's I would say Stephens is the best pure passer. If he gets his mind right he will be the starter.

It was a great tool the General used it. However in today's world fans wanting 5 wides and throw every down the web sites would hang a coach that used it.

Can't say I ever heard of Lee Majors as a relation, but I do remember Bill Majors who played tail-quarter-full-punter and even punt-returns..well, hell, he did just about everything but play defense..during the '60's. There probably will never be a closer more dedicated family connection with UT football than the Majors. All the more impressive because their dad coached at Suwanee for many years.

God bless Coach Shirley Majors and his family's contribution to football in general, and UT football in particular. Can't remember all the facts, but seem to recall Bill was an uncle to Johnny and Bobby. The actor Lee Majors adopted the Majors name when he "went Hollywood", but was a close friend and huge fan of Johnny. I seem to remember Lee Majors being announced while attending games at Neyland in the late 70's, when I was blessed to be part of Johnny's "Follow me to Tennessee" campaign when he came home from Pitt. Old memories, thanks for binging them back!
