QB prospect Bell picks Oklahoma

Tennessee prospect Blake Bell has committed to sign with the Oklahoma Sooners, according to OUInsider.com.

The prospect from Bishop Carroll High School in Wichita, Kan., was one of UT's most highly coveted quarterback prospects for the 2010 class. As of last month the Vols had only offered two quarterbacks: Bell and Jake Heaps from Skyline High School in Sammamish, Wash.

"I can't find any other place that has everything I'm looking for," Bell said on the ESPN website. "My dad and uncle agree, that OU has the best coaching, QB coach, best offense, best passing offense and best winning tradition that we can find."

"We've looked at a lot of schools and a lot of program, and after watching practice, and how they practice, no one matches up with what OU is doing.

"Their quarterback situation is pretty good for me. Because I can come in next year, work hard, and have a legitimate shot at playing time. It's going to be a wide open competition."

Bell threw for 3,231 yards and 37 touchdowns while also rushing for 336 yards and 12 more scores last season.

What QB wouldn't want to play in those wide-open, Big 12 offenses?

That's the guy we want.

I'm sure he has the ability, but reading Heap's comments in interviews it sounds like he's a cut above the rest mentally/intellectually too.

That's important.

can't blame a kid for going to Oklahoma...good school, great coaching and tradition. However, if he thinks the QB position is "wide open" as he says....then I have some ocean front property in Knox County to sell him.

Has he never heard of Sam Bradford?

This news was on a recruiting

we were depending heavily
on getting a 5 star Q.B. this
year! I have a feeling that this isn't over yet, though.
We won't stop recruiting him!!

How much do you want for it?

Voluvr writes:

Press Heaps, Offer Montana, still go sign Bell. However, Bell is okay but not the pure passer heaps is. He likes to tuck and run. We don't need a Tony Robinson. We need some durability.

Bell should thrive against those sorry Big 12 defenses.

You may be right.

I'd say it would be tough for UT, or any other school for that matter, to take him away from Oklahoma. Their QB's become Heisman finalist and throw for video game like numbers.

Likely not to happen at UT.

Sounds like someone`s misleading this young man, OU does not have the best coaching staff. He could come here and start from day one in a pro style offense and be NFL ready when he leaves! The only bright side of this is, if he signed with us, we would have had 0 chance at Heaps who is the best quarterback!

Timed_vol (Inactive) writes:

Makes sense that top QB's avoid the SEC...think about it. Would you rather trhow against a big 12 defense, or an SEC defense?? Likewise, do you want to be crusehed by an SEC defensive tabkle???

In some ways, the SEC focus on defense maybe hurts it in recruiting. I would not say as a conference we have problems putting QB's in the NFL, but you can bet other conferences use our strong defenses against us in recruiting.

QB's who come into the SEC have to know they will take some serious hits.

kdaff51 writes:

Notice he said he would compete for "playing time"? I thought wide open competition would be for the starters job. Guess he will figure that out when he reports for fall practice with his name across the front of his helment so the coaches will remember him.

Well, you never know. UT has grabbed some highly-regarded WR prospects from Oklahoma-- ones that actually grew up IN Oklahoma.
GO VOLS!!! WIN A LOT OF GAMES THIS FALL, AND THE TOP PROSPECTS WILL WANT TO WEAR BIG ORANGE!

Well, Bradford was a (RS) Sophomore this year, which means he's been in school for 3 years. While Bradford is still eligible for the 2009 and 2010 seasons, you have to believe he will be gone after this year. Thus leaving the door open for Bell in the 2010 season.

This site has become such garbage that I can't even look at it most days. I just look at the GoVolsXTRA updates on Twitter where the jagoffs can't pollute the landscape. They probably think "Twitter" is a male evacuation port. Of course in their case it would be microscopic so maybe not...

Most of us are rational in our expectations of what Kiffin can bring. Oklahoma goes through down times like every other program:

http://www.soonersports.com/sports/m-...

They have had a nice ru in the Stoops era, however, please notice the 1990's for them...not to swift.

The point is, Kiffin has the opportunity. We do NOT know how it will turn out, btt to categorically state that OU will ALWAYS win and UT will ALWAYS not win, which is what you are implying...well, it is NOT born out by history.

Won't have gotten either?!? Wow...

Anywho, scout.com didn't even list us in the top 10 of this guy, I was wondering why I hadn't seen much on him. Everything I have seen say Heaps and Sims our the top 2 targets with Montana as a 3rd if those two don't pan out.

We play at Oklahoma in 2014 and they come to Knoxville in 2015 (according to an article on this site last September).

Wichita is less than 3 hours from Norman and OU is a solid program. No real surprise Blake winds up there.

Been awhile since Stoops won a BCS game. Better win one soon.
