Defensive tackle Broussard picks Vols

Tennessee received a commitment Friday from defensive tackle Risean Broussard from LaGrange High School in Lake Charles, La.

The 6-foot-2, 290-pound Broussaid he chose UT over Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas.

Broussard, who was primarily recruited by UT defensive line coach Ed Orgeron, is a key commitment for the Vols as they have placed a high priority on signing defensive tackles in 2010.

Broussard is the second prospect from Lake Charles to say he’ll play for Lane Kiffin’s staff at UT.

The Vols signed defensive back Janzen Jackson from Barbe High School in the 2009 class.

Broussard is UT’s second commitment for the 2010 class. Defensive end Jacques Smith from Ooltewah High School committed to the Vols on Feb. 4.

The challenge now is to get the signed letter of intent which hopefully will happen for he seems to be a real talent and one of need at UT.

stop looking at stars, and look at who wants the kid! if saban and stoopes wanted him, then he must be a high upside player! this kid has some nice numbers, but it has to translate to the field! i learned a long time ago, that stars are meaningless, most of the time! this is a good get, if the kid signs! we need more big bodies, on both sides of the line! my guess is, as this kid plays his senior season, his stock will go up!

Ahh, there's a way to gauge a potential star - they were recruited by Alabama, Oklahoma and Oregon. Now forgive me for not remembering, but which one of those last won an NC and when? On the other hand, the dudes bio looks strong - way to go Oregeron.

cobbwebb writes:

the fact is, Bama, Oklahoma, and LSU are top notch programs! if you think otherwise, you are crazy! Oregon aint no slouch! cmon, its not like we are talking about FIU, or UAB, recruiting the kid! I still say this could be a big get for Monte K.!

SuperVolfan writes:

Dude, you stay up late! Do you have some other info on him?

Let's just say that the rating agencies like Rivals overlooked this kid. And when you have a kid is who being chased by Oklahoma, Alabama and Oregon, among others....it's not a coincidence.

I may be a Gator fan who wants to bury UT, but I'm willing to tell it like I see it.

This kid is a solid 4 star.

richvol writes:

He looks like a grown man in his photo and he's not carrying any fat like most 290 pounders. I'd say he has a world of potential and certainly should grow bigger and stronger as well. He's built like Weary and can run a 5 second 40. Now if we can keep Saban,Miles and Meyer away from him it's a great get.

Wow...what a few days. A good get at D-Tackle, and an interesting get at QB. the coaches are doing the right things.

Go Vols

MrBamSeydu writes:

The only reason he's a 1-star is because he hasn't been fully scouted yet due to his injury and not having played his JR season. It's hard to evaluate a player who hasn't played since halfway through their sophomore season in high school. The only thing they have to go on is the camps and you can't dish out stars for a vertical leap or a broad jump.

He'll be a 4* before it's all said and done, mark it down.

I thought the same things after reading about him. I just don't have a good feeling about this commitment. Things just don't add up. Why hasn't LSU offered? He grows up in Lafayette and follows LSU his whole life, yet he commits to us nine months early?
