Ed Orgeron held a six-hour recruiting meeting last Monday. I know this because Lane Kiffin posted the news on his Twitter account.
Social-networking applications: Not just for glittery icons and status updates on dinner anymore. The latest social-networking craze is closing the gap between coach and fan, school and supporter.
Twitter, for those still trying to figure out Facebook, is a device that enables users to send out short updates — no more than 140 characters — called “tweets.” Friends and family can subscribe to the user and get all updates immediately.

Another fabulously informative article from GVX and CTFP...
because I often sit and wonder what Mark Richt had for dinner and when Lane Kiffin is going to the store...

Kiffin has never posted about going to the store so you'll have to hold your breath.
He has posted about what's he doing "on the job" in meetings and in practice.

"tweets" for "twits"

He folks, this is all about recruiting. The NCAA hasn't figured out how to regulate "broadcast" (non-directed) type messages over the Internet and this is all the craze with high school students. It allows for him to "connect" with perspective recruits by providing a window into the football program that one would not usually get. And from the head coach at that! Twitter is a way without using all of the regulated contacts mandated by the NCAA to get exposure for UT. It is innovative. I applaud him for how he is using all the tools at his disposal to get UT back to the football powerhouse it has been in the past. GO VOLS!!!!!!!!

You are exactly right... this is cutting edge technology that will take the NCAA quite a while to figure out.
People who dont understand what twitter is, think about it like this: Where on Facebook, the user finds the people that he/she wants to follow... on Twitter, people mass assemble around the user. Recruits will find Coach Kiffin on twitter and it will be a window into the program.
It is a beautiful recruiting ploy. Pete Carroll at USC updates recruits regularly on practices, how many cheerleaders/friends of the program are around that day, which actor is the latest USC supporter, the spring game, etc. The NCAA cannot control this stuff.
I promise you... Recruits will LOVE this.
