If offered by UT, Moody will sign

It seems to be only a matter of time until Dexter Moody becomes a Vol.

“I’m going to (sign) as soon as they offer,” the former Georgia signee said.

That offer could come quickly. Barring an unforeseen issue in his background search, Tennessee is expected to offer the 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker a scholarship in the near future.

“It’s pretty much up to me to get my schoolwork done,” the standout linebacker from Emanuel County Institute in Twin City, Ga. said.

Moody said he doubts he’ll look at other schools as he waits for UT’s offer.

“I’m going to wait and eventually I hope I’ll get a scholarship offer from them,” Moody said.

Moody was one of several visitors for Saturday’s Orange and White Game.

Moody signed with Georgia in February but was given his unconditional release following an incident with one of his teachers at Emanuel County Institute.

Any other info on this kid? How good is he? Lets just hope he doesnt bring a bad attitude and isnt a complete waste of talent. Other than that, bring em in!

GO VOLS!

He can't be that bad if GA had already offered him.

sebfootball_39 writes:

We live not too far from ECI where he played. He is a stud but supposedly threatened a teacher and UGA released him because of it and some other off field issues.

dehvols writes:

I didn't ask how bad he was, because obviously he has some talent. I want to know how GOOD he is. Will he help us? Or will he hurt us?

With our weakness at LB, esp depth, I wouldn't be suprised if he plays a little this fall.

He is really good.

You can bet he will be given a fresh start with a short leash.

It was hard to tell at the O&W how good our LB's are. The D gave up some big runs which is a concern, even with the limited sets. Any depth at LB is welcome. If he causes trouble, Kiffin shows him the door. We can't lose. Go Vols.

He signed with Georgia, his LOI was already in, but then he had some incident at school and uga just let him out of his LOI and said 'c-ya!'......I imagine he would be a short leash, but it sounds like these coaches keep an eye on their guys and won't waste anytime axing him if he does any stupid stuff.

He is rated in the top-10 at his position on scout.com.

ctownvol writes:

He is a STUD linebacker. If he puts all his off-field problems behind him and walks the line, he will be a super addition.

Dead on.

He may not fit Ms Clara's school of etiquette but I'm kinda interested in having a highly competitive ORANGE football team again.

Lordy, its been going on 11 years and we're interested in handing out feel-good awards!

I wouldn't waste much time trying to gauge future performance on the O&W game. It was a show (one I enjoyed) and nothing more.

Not necessarily in that order.

And Heaven knows we can't let that 11 turn into 20.

To Hammy's and Haslam's credit, something is being done.

The path we travelled was a slipping down schedule.

Hopefully the staff knows the full story, whatever it may be, behind this incident with a teacher. If they offer him, I assume they feel this kid can pull it together and represent the Vols well. According to the recruiting sites, he has the talent. Hopefully he has the attitude and commitment. Everyone makes mistakes. Learn from them and move on in life.

straightshooter writes:

Looks like Florida offered him as well according to the Rivals site. He must have the talent so the only question is will he have the discipline to follow team and classroom rules. I am sure coach will study the circumstances thoroughly and act appropriately. The last thing they need going into the fall would be a distraction from something related to bad off field attics possibly implicating other players as well. They will be working hard in coaching up the incoming Freshman so they can contribute to this season.

He cannot do all of the needed research.

This guy was not on his second chance. It was like a cat, and he used up all 9 lives. The final incident with the teacher should have had him expelled and not graduating.

There was even an incident involving an assistant coach which was swept under the rug.

This guy needs to enrol at FSU and blend in.

Slystone writes:

Let's just hope he isn't a "Can't Get Right" because getting released from 2 SEC schools would pretty much assure a career in a minimum wage job. Hopefully his parents have sat down with him to get him to see this.

givehim6 writes:

I'd say let's get him if hes good. let's get guys from UGA since they got M. Brown from UT.

volfanNPa writes:

The cold hard facts are this. Most "Stud" high school players come to college with the plan to play 3 years and then go to the NFL. If this guy can help us win a couple SEC championships and keep his nose clean and his grades up enough to play I say welcome to Tennessee!!!

Can I get an Amen?

PaulTheVol writes:

He has talent. After all the off-field problems that Georgia had last off-season Richt decided to have a zero tolerance policy for his players and recruits. After this guy cold-cocked a teacher (among other things) UGA released him. There is no doubt he can play and would thrive in a speed system, the real question is how long will he remain eligible and avoid trouble. If he straightens out he will be a great get.

True.

As long as HCLK doesn't mind some riff-raff in the stands, he'll be fine.

Geezers can be a surly bunch.

At times.

Many have had numerous 2nd and third "chances".

Looks like a win-win situation for all involved. The kid gets a chance to redeem himself and UT gets one of the top LBs out there. UGA offered him early and liked him. He has talent. And Kiff will set the rules to follow and if he slips up...he's gone. I like the situation.

Go Vols

Madkels writes:

Does anyone have details about the "altercation" with a teacher? I can't find much other than he was allegedly sleeping in class and was awakened by the teacher...if this is the real deal. Anyway, if he was verbally abusive or got physical with the teacher, let him go elsewhere. We need great atheletes who are good people as well. One blog suggested the teacher woke him and he played the entitled "big athelete" card. Anyone know details?

Agree. I think you summed it up!

O.K. He is a BALLER!
Keep in mind, he is just a kid. Mistakes are made daily.
Some bigger than others. Second chances are acceptable.
Thirds are not due to sloppiness.

Regardless of what happened with a teacher, which of you didn't mouth off to a teacher in highschool? If you didn't, you wanted to and didn't have the courage. Just keep in mind the public school systems in Georgia probably do not have the best gene pools to pull quality teachers from!

Let CLK make the decision and stand behind it.

good points...that is pretty much what I was thinking. I mouthed off to more than one teacher when I was a teenager. he could have felt threatened in some way or challenged who knows... there are always two sides to a story. anyways I am sure he has his reasons that he wants to be a Vol.
Considering LB is an area where we need as many guys as we can get because who knows who will and will not pan out, who will get injured etc.... I sure am glad he wants to come here to be a Vol!

ColeTrickle writes:

you think??? maybe KNS will take that as a hint...

wonder if Rozier was there or if he was packing his stuff up to come to Knoxville? impressed to hear that Al Wilson was there...would love to see him roaming the sidelines on Saturdays! can you have an assistant LB coach?

BigOrangeinCharge writes:

He assaulted a teacher, and that was the last straw in a long, long line of "incidents." This is a thug who's been handed everything because he's good at sports. I don't want him here, no matter how good he is and no single athlete will help us win championships. God only knows what he'll do on campus at UT to get himself booted off. Guys like him usually only last a year or two before they get booted for one reason or another and he's really NOT any better on the field than the other guys the Vols have and can get. I see Demitrice Morley, Part II.
