KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee’s former NFL coaches thought the past few weeks were difficult. The next few months will be even tougher.
The Volunteers don’t resume full-team practices until August.
Summer will be a long wait for the same coaches who have struggled adjusting to the NCAA’s 20-hour-per-week rule for the fall and spring.

I think that sums up what happen last year pretty good! GO VOLS!!!!

HA! The coaching staff grades EVERYTHING.
"Loaf Cam" in the weight room. Genius.
Reminds me of the mentality that Bruce brought in his first year. We may get beat, but nobody will work harder than us and we will never quit.
I especially like that "never quit" part.

Watching the replays last night it looks like there are some positives.
Crompton and Coleman look much sharper and Crompton was much more agile than last year. Stephens looks like he's OK but he obviously was hurt by the lack of practice due to his wrist injury.
The receivers and tailbacks looked very promising. Hardesty if can stay healthy should have a great year and Poole and Williams showed real promise. Both fullbacks looked like they are capable as well.
On defense, just like we have been reading, we lack athleticism at linebacker but the guys there can play.
The question remains until the first game next year. How will the offense respond when faced with multiple fronts and game pressures?
Will the defense be much better when running the full package? And what will be the impact of guys like Jarrod Askew in fall camp?
The most promising note I took out of the game was that the quarterbacks mostly made the proper decisions and the receivers made some athletic plays on less than perfect throws.
Plus Warren and Hancock will burn defenses if they concentrate on Moore and Jones.
Overall I would say Kiffin is off to a promising start.
GoVols!

Hello everyone. I am new here but not new to UT football. I have been reading your posts for sometime now and finally decided to join. I saw the O & W game on tv last night and I have to say what a good change of pace from last season! It looks like (so far) that these guys will be more than ready to play in sept. The QB's appeared more comfortable in this new system. Really, Except for Lincoln every other facet of the game looked to be in place and clicking. All of the ESPN people talk about this and that type of offense but you rarely hear them go into detail about defense. I think that's what will have is a stellar D. Does anyone know what other college teams use a version of the "Cover 2" or is it just us? Anyway...Can't wait until Sept. GO VOLS!!!
T4Tennessee writes:
Thanks for the link and the welcome! Very informative info. on the cover 2. I have been a football fan since...well...All of my life. I have never really looked into the x's & o's of the cover 2 though. Souds like if the D-line can get pressure on the qb then the offensive mayhem will ensue. Sounds good to me. I look forward to talking much football here. GO VOLS!!!

When watching the game last night I heard Kessling say: "They line up with a wing to the right." Is this a form of the single wing offense or something else?
GREATVOLSAFIRE writes:
a single-wing formation is any offensive formation having exactly one wingback and one tight end aligned together.

DCdnyasty, I think the biggest problem I have with your posts are that you want everyone to believe you are an expert in every subject, every team and every player for the last 50 years. I am certainly not an expert but have been very fortunate to have been raised around many who are considered quite knowledgeable in Tenn and SEC sports.
Here is one of your brilliant statements and I quote. "Lastly, I think Kiffin has a tendency to lie, and this is a pattern. In his post-game interview, he explained the basic/primitive look of the offense by saying he didn't want to show much on national TV. Really? Seriously? He sacrificed reps for players that clearly need them in a semi- game-like environment because someone might be scouting? I find that incredibly naive or dishonest."
If you are so knowledgeable about college football, then you obviously know that most every team in the country runs nothing more then basic sets and plays during the spring game. You must have just forgotten this obvious point.
And then of course there is this brilliant statement and again I quote. "Remember, Al Davis called him a outright liar." You agreeing with what Al Davis says. Well that speaks for itself among knowledgeable sports fans....LOL
Then maybe the line that tops them all....."We've seen other lies too, (I fired the limo driver, Urb is a cheater, etc...)"
Well, guaranteed the limo driver is not doing anything connected with the football program and then the most brilliant of all " Urb is a cheater".....and your point is???????????
You try to make it sound as if Kiffin is doing things to hurt his reputation or that of the University.....Obviously that is what you and many other fans and coaches around the SEC would like. Well unfortunately for you and the rest of those who are saying a lot, the real results are being quoted by the young men being recruited. When asked what they think of Kiffin's continued shots at Urb and the others, the responses all have the same tone....They think it's GREAT and LOVE IT.
Unfortunately for you, URB and the rest who keep talking about everything Kiffin, Kiffin and company do, the results will be determined on the field with wins and losses. Win's and losses are determined by recruiting and then teaching those young men.
This staff has already shown what kind of recruiting they are capable of and it will not change the outcome if you and others continue to deny their ability to recruit or coach.
I hear you keep talking about Kiffin having little experience as a coach. Well to be a great leader in any thing in life, the key is to surround yourself with people who are experts in their individual field. You may want to deny the abilities of these coaches but if you ask those in the know, this staff has the expertise that is required to put them on top year after year.
If you are as knowledgeable as you insist, you already know this. Sometimes reality is hard to digest.

Every point you made was valid. But this person will not admit he is wrong. We've all tried, nothing works. When you catch him in a lie, he stops posting. That's why he has no credibility. To him. U.T. is wrong, U.F. is right. And facts are not going to change that. But I admire your effort.

Who is in a cocoon? I have the pleasure of knowing fans from all over the country, place like SoCal, Hawaii, Oregon to Big Ten country and down to Miami. Their concensus is that Kiffin is a great hire. The other thing they all agree on is that they're all tired of UF, Tebow, and lil-Urbie. We're not the joke anymore, people are tired of you. When you're at the top everyone wants to knock you down. I guarantee every OSU fan out there is loving every minute of the The Kiffin Show. EVERYONE acknowledges we have the best D-Coordinater in football, 2 of the top recruiters, and the best RB coach the SEC has seen this decade. They're on an upswing, and this upsets you. Why? Don't you want to see more competetive games between UF and UT? Don't you want to see UF challenged for a change? That's why the SEC is great, it's a challenge every week. By the way, you point out that Kiffin is inexperienced in the SEC, so was Urban experienced in the SEC? NO. Did he hire great coaches? YES. Just hiring Charlie Strong was a great move. Has it all worked out for UF? YES. Will all of Kiffin's ideas work? WE'LL SEE. You don't know the future, so just sit back and watch what unfolds, maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong, but remember: assumption is the mother of all f-ups.

A question for audience.
1) What will be the score of the game if you exclude the points UF scores on offense? Basically it's UF defense and special teams against everything UT scores. Field goals and extra points go to the offense, unless an extra point follows a non-offensive touchdown.
UF won according to this formula last year. Will they do it again.
2) Anticipating a UT fan will come up with a high point total for your offense....which matchups do you like with your offense against our defense?

Let's see...5 years ago, CLK was being promoted from wide receiver coach to passing game coach at USC. He was the recruiting coordinator of a university where 5* kids beg for offers in a conference they dominate easily.
At the same time Urban Meyer was leading Utah to national prominence and a 12-0 record.
If Al Davis is a well known idiot as you all indicate, why did CLK go to work for him? Did Al do anything unexpected?
DC's point is that no coach ever took over an upper tier SEC team on such a skinny resume. (WR coach so recently !!).

There's 2 bets there.

If I win both, no action required. The satisfaction of UF trouncing UT and seeing a Gator drafted ahead of the his godliness will be more than enough.
Deal?
Oh yeah...there's a fine point here. I get the extra point after a defense or special teams touchdown. I get no credit for any field goal or an extra point after an offensive touchdown.
19SEP09 writes:
Just to be clear, I would get credit for a safety as well.

I was at the game. One false start. They looked quick, crisp, disciplined, alert. And they were a lot quicker than last year.
YOU had better get better really quick or YOU are going to have a long year trying to convince us that we are not a WHOLE lot better than we have been in a while.

I was away for awhile. Let me try to clarify the rules.
1) You get all points - simple.
2) I get all points which occur on a play in which UF is on defense.
3)I get all points scored on a play in which UF special teams are on the field (except UF field goals and UF extra points which follow offensive touchdowns).
This basically refers to punt returns, kick returns, blocked kicks and fake punts.
4) I get extra points which occcur after a score I get credit in section 3.
5) I get safeties.
Clear??

But here are articles showing 20 UT arrests in 16 months ending in 2005 and 6 arrests in month in 2008. That's 26 arrests while Meyer has been here with a 2+ year year window in the middle that is unaccounted for.
You've had more crimes and 4 killers at UT, so back off the holier than thou BS.

And secondly, that's why the games are PLAYED, dummy. No team worth its salt goes on the field expecting to lose, so they go play. And you know what they say (or maybe you don't) "On any given Saturday..."
