Georgia basketball signee Miller granted release

ATHENS, Ga. — New Georgia coach Mark Fox has granted signee Daniel Miller of Loganville a release from the letter-of-intent he signed with the school.

The 6-foot-11 Miller signed with Georgia during the early signing period in November, which was before athletic director Damon Evans fired former coach Dennis Felton in January and hired Fox this month.

Fox said Miller’s family requested that Miller be freed to sign with another school.

Fox said Tuesday in a statement released by the school he met with Miller’s family last weekend and agreed to the request.

“I wish him well in the career path he chooses for himself,” Fox said.

I say if Tyler comes back kick someone off that can't make the grades and take this guy.

You have Phillip Jurick who just redshirted at the 5 for the next 4 years.

UT has had too many stiffs playing center who can't shoot a lick over the years to recruit another. But I am sure CP will review tape of the guy and make an intelligent decision. They certainly could use some size in the middle after Williams leaves and they need someone who unlike Williams can acutally shoot the ball at a high percentage, play good D and be counted on for a 12-15 point game average.

espn.com reports Tyler Smith has declared for the draft and hired an agent. Anyone know about this?

That can't be right about Tyler Smith signing with an agent. Why has GVS or Tennessean etc. not reported it? I don't believe it until it's reported out of Tennessee. ESPN has been known to be wrong... a lot. Why would you go pro when at best you'll be picked 25th in the first round? He'll most likely be taken in the second round. He can't be in a hurry to make 800,000 for two seasons before being booted from the NBA all together.

Sorry to break it to you, but Childress never played except early in his career when Pearl needed bodies. Childress got past his injury and only got in blowout games with a couple of minutes to go. We need quick 4 & 5 star guards. This will not happen. He's also looking at a much better player if Smith leaves and opens up that scholarship.

If Maze's "scholarship" is not renewed.

Agreed but without Childress we arent in a couple of games two years ago especially against Ohio State.

DS, your premise is right to a point about getting premium players. However, if Childress health had gotten back to where it was as Soph, he would have gotten a lot more time, and would have helped team a lot. He is better than Steven any day. He was medically cleared in Jan., but was only at about 80% according to Bruce.

That's why he red shirted. So what's your point? Chism and Williams will primarily play the 5 this year with Jurick hopefully gaining some experience. That was the plan.

I kind of hope he goes. Last year, all he did was try to prove he could play the NBA "2" by jacking up lots of 3's and outside shots, which he does not have. He made a few, but we need Tatum, Hopson, and Woolridge taking those next year. When Smith operated inside for us, he is one of the premier players and warriors in the country. Outside, I have a better 3-pt jumpshot. Pearl was loyal to Tyler, but can't afford to let him have carte blanche again this year with the offense. What beat us was bad shooting last year, not our freshman. Tyler was a big part of that. He is a 12 foot and in guy. If he doesn't commit to that role, let him go. Kenny Hall will fill it nicely.

Volumni - you're right there, but I think part of the problem is that Tyler clearly excels in more of a supporting role, rather than being the "go-to" guy in terms of scoring..

IMO, the main reason he looked so good his soph year is that we had Chris and Jajuan shooting threes and extending / breaking down defenses, allowing Tyler to get open in the paint and do his thing without getting double teamed or jammed up near the basket. With our atrocious 3pt shooting this year, defenses were able to pack it in with the zone and stifle him consistently.. That, combined with the fact that he tried to do WAY too much in certain games (forcing shots instead of letting the game come to him), is the reason that his stock has dropped a bit.

It's not a bad move. He needs a payday whether it's in the NBA or elsewhere.

You were counting on the KNS to do some actual work? Surely you jest.
