LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky and new head coach John Calipari will get an early test next season.
The Wildcats will play Big East power Connecticut on Dec. 9 in the third annual SEC/Big East Challenge. The game will be part of a doubleheader at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Georgia will play St. John’s in the opener, followed by the Huskies and the Wildcats.
UConn and Kentucky have met just once, with the Huskies winning in the second round of the 2006 NCAA tournament.
The Big East holds the upper hand in the challenge, holding a 5-3 lead through two seasons.
The two other games in this year’s challenge are Syracuse vs. Florida and DePaul vs. Mississippi State. Those games will be played in Tampa on Dec. 10
Tennessee defeated Marquette as part of the SEC/Big East Challenge this past season.

I don't think UConn will be as good next year. Kentucky might be better? Depends on who comes back

Good Lord. This means I'll have to root for Calipari. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Too bad Xavier Henry is going to Kansas now instead of Kentucky

Mistake University... wow I bet that took sometime to come up with. Henry wasn't coming to Memphis with Cal at Kentucky. Give Pastner time to recruit. He may surprise some people. And before you call someone a circus midget coach go back and look at Pearl dressed up in the buffoonery checker board sport coat trying to rap.

You mean Josh Jonas, don't you? Or Peter Brady, I can't decide which.
You're right though. If he does anything at all, it would surprise me. Take heart though. You can win Conference USeless with three players. That's all you need.

I could be wrong, but didn't Mississippi State play in last years Sec/Big East challenge?

Looks like the Big East will go 4-1 this year in the challenge. Only Mississippi State will be favored. Personally, I'll enjoy every minute of watching Calamari get fried by UConn.

Florida should be able to handle Syracuse since they lost Devendorf and Flynn. And I wouldn't count KY out against UConn either.

Biggie if you polled most folk in Memphis majority wanted nothing to do with Pearl. I was very surprise that UM officials were even considering him. As for RC you get no argument from me on him. If he were at UT he would be in thru the out door already. My only point with you is I can dig the shots at Cal. But Pastner seems a bit more genuine and at this point deserves a shot. No whining to the CA by me. As I have stated in the past I like both the Vols and Tigers, but to attack Pastner was a bit uncalled for and unjustified.
Slystone writes:
What will be interesting is if Pearl will ever be able to covet a recruit from Memphis now that Cal is gone. No one really talks about it much or perhaps most folk think it's a given. If Pastner proves he can bench coach and builds crediblity with the area HS coaches then Pearls task will be even harder. Time will tell because personally I don't know if the new UM coach can direct from the bench.
