STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State has signed Wendell Lewis of Selma, Ala., to a national letter of intent.
The announcement was made Wednesday by head basketball coach Rick Stansbury.
The 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward averaged 14 points, 12.5 boards and 2.4 blocks a game as a senior. He earned all-state honors and was instrumental in leading his team to a 21-11 record that included a berth in the Class 5A Alabama high school tournament.
Lewis is the Bulldogs second signee. Earlier, Stansbury signed Shaunessy Smith, a 6-6, 200-pound guard out of Noxubee County High School in Macon.

OK. So is Tyler going to the NBA? ANd if so, will we sign a 3rd player this year?

A few of us like to be kept informed. Besides, it was a very short piece and we do play them. Seems harmless enough.

I'm a basketball fan and like to keep up with recruiting, but even I yawned through this article about a 3-star kid in Alabama we apparently didn't offer. I even attended the same high school as this guy and don't really care. If this is the most interesting news story available to report, pull a Jayson Blair and make something up.

This is important to us because they have now used their one scholarship this season. They are now hunting shooting guard help(Skylar McBee) and defensive point guard help who can walk on with a full academic scholarship. As poorly as we have used our scholarships, we need a couple of good walkon academic kids to add a second line of depth. We just don't have that, look at last year. MS State is out pushing what they can to make a better team next year. We will have to play them. It may not be interesting now, but next Jan this just might be a hot article to reflect on. Rick Stansbury is a good recruiter with what he has to work with. Our coaches should pay attention to everything MS State does. They might learn something about recruiting the south.

I don't think Stansberry a great developer of talent, so I'm not too worried about these pickups. Miss State is an ok program, these signees are par for the course.

Stansbury always finds a couple of guys under the radar who turn out to be pretty good players.
