This poll is worded in such a way that it is difficult to answer.
While the departure of Creer and Morley are a concern their spots are among the deepest on the roster with more than enough talent to pick up the slack.
In the case of many of the linemen they appeared to simply not buy into the program.
The loss of Coleman is troublesome. While its difficult to judge arm strength watching on television he appeared to have a good arm, quick feet, elusiveness and an understanding of the offense. His TD pass into the corner of the end zone made while evading the pass rush showed off his athletic ability. It looked to me with a good fall he might well have won the job.
Crompton looked much better than last year but I am waiting to see what he does in an actual game. If he passes that test I think were OK. Stephens was tough to judge due to his injury.
So I am concerned mainly with the loss of Coleman the others more or less eliminated themselves.
Cromptons performance in games last year was pitiful compared to his practice. If he starts out like that this year, they better bench him quick and go with the next best whether Stevens or a freshman.
It's never good to lose players from a depth chart stand point but Morley absolutely needed to go. Lennon Creer will be replaced with one of the plethera of running backs. BJ Coleman is better off transfering to UTC then Duke for his senior season to play with Cutcliffe. Now is it good that in 2010 the QB will either be the incosistant Nick Stevens or a Freshman absolutely not especially in the SEC since last year proved experience matters. Will UT struggle in 2010 yes b/c of that & the schedule. Will they be good enough in 2011 for Kiffin to keep his job if 09 & 10 go really bad, that's yet to be decided but right now I'm not so sure.
I am bothered by the last lineman to be put off team. What was the point? Solid kid, got injured playing for the Vols, I thought we could coach them up. We are so thin at this position. I would have kept him one more year-than released him if he did not improve. We will have many empty scholarships this fall. If your kid was injured playing ball the VOLS an was released like this you would not be happy. Where is the family attitude at? Go VOLS
With what has happened over the past several months. It's easy to see just how bad Fulmer allowed the program to get. Poor leadership (getting kids in class and working to get better on and off the field).
If Fulmer lives and breathes Tennessee, how could he allow things to get this bad? The talent level dropped. The talent we did have would rather get smoked up, wave a gun, or whatever else they could get away with.
Maybe Tennessee football will become relevant again someday.

There are no Freshmen QBs coming in. None of them "fit" the offense. There is the ex Red Sox player who may be a diamond in the rough though. I just hope Crompton eats his wheaties and drinks his milk over the summer.
We have been below SEC calipher on Offfense for the last three years, who's fault is it, easy the prior coaching staff. I believe Coach Kiffin knows what to do, let's give him 100% support until it's clear he does not.
Look at the draft this weekend. One player drafted. Enough said. Morley (if he gets his head on straight), and Creer are the only ones with the talent to play on Sundays. Who cares if guys quit that can't cut it or don't have the talent. It just makes more room on the roster to upgrade talent...though in the short term, it may leave us a little short handed on OL/DL.
The declining level of talent over the last 3 to 4 years at Tennessee was indicated by the NFL draft. Since the majority of the Vols coaches have strong NFL backgrounds and have vowed to bring Tennessee to the highest level, why would anyone be surprised that players are leaving for what ever reason?

The loss of Coleman was not troublesome to me. While he appeared to have some talent, both head coaches obviously had something in common - they each knew he wasn't ready to lead this team. Also, handling harsh criticism from a coach is just something you need to be expected to deal with in sports. If he couldn't handle what Kiffin had to tell him, then oh well... hope he does well wherever he lands.
Do ewe know for a FACT that Coach Kiffin actually spewed that caustic speech? Yes we always hope that in any situation that both parties learn from them. We need to move on and look to the fall sessions which will be here b4 we know it. Also, can the Coach Fulmer bashers give it up? You all have rerepeated each other a bzillion times on the state of the team where he left it. Ok fine...zip the lip it has all been said...said...said...said
Get the point? It is old and yesterday's news. Are you going to live in the past and moan n whine? Or get back to your Kiffin euphoria? Pick the right one and move on.....
Who cares whether BJ is lying or Kiffin? Who cares what a disgruntled player that quits his team and himself and then goes to the media about "poor little me"? Besides, why are we to believe BJ anyway?? Their's two sides to every story. Sometimes things are said and done to motivate players, to push them to find what they are made of. But to call Kiffin a liar just because BJ says so...........and who give's a s### what BJ says! He's a quitter and he's gone! Go CLK and GO VOLS!!
The players that are gone are a casualty of the coaching change. That's how it happens. The Vol nation has not seen an "outside the family" coach in my lifetime. I know there was no massive upheaval when Coach Fulmer replaced Coach Majors, which is the only coaching change I am old enough (33) to remember. It was also a case of promoting within the family, and most of the players on that team were recruited, at least in part, by Fulmer. Think about it. If Coach Cutcliffe had been hired instead of Coach Kiffin, it may have been Crompton transferring instead of Coleman. One thing is for sure, though, and that is we needed a dose of discipline. For whatever reason Coach Fulmer gave chance after chance to these young men, and they refused to change. I point to Demetrice Morley as an example. I truly believe that Coach Fulmer thought that they would straighten up and "fly right", but they only took advantage of that. Look at Britton Colquitt. I think that the draft has been damning evidence of player development as of late, as well. Phil could always recruit with the best of 'em, because he was selling something he believed in: Tennessee. But it seems that when Cutcliffe, an outstanding developer of QB's, and Trooper Taylor, a big time motivator, left, so did a lot of the discipline and "coaching up". I am grateful for all that Fulmer achieved, and will always see him as a Vol. I am also grateful for the discipline and work effort that Coach Kiffin and staff are trying to instill. I am also thankful that they will not just give a starter job based on seniority, unless all else is equal. Some of the players that left really did need to go because of discipline issues. While the rest that left didn't agree with the staff's assesment of their abilities (Sawtelle, Creer, and Coleman) it was the staff's choice to make. Those players left with their best interests in mind, just as the coaching staff made their decisions with the best ineterests of Tennessee's '09 season in mind.
Coleman was a prima donna. We're better off without him. He was clearly a very immature kid
Sorry, but you don't know this kid. He's definitely not a prima dona and is very mature. If you know that you're in a no win situation, you have to do what's best. BJ's a good, humble kid with more character that most people have. It's our loss. I wish him the best of luck and God's blessings.

Agreed UTmama. There have been all kinds of attacks on him lately. Not one person was concerned that he went to McCallie, or accused him of being an "Immature, priviliged little rich kid" earlier this spring. I think the only people that call him this are usually jealous of the opportunities his parents hard work afforded him. I'm pretty sure that when my son enrolls at Baylor or McCallie for 6th grade in the next couple of years, he'll hear the same thing from some bitter people, even though I worked my A off on a dairy farm growing up, had my undergrad paid for from my military service, and worked like a dog while I was pursuing my graduate degree. I paid for my sons "privilege" through sweat and blood. The same way a ton of other parents, like BJ's, have paid for theirs. I don't believe a single person on here that says that they wouldn't do the same if they could.

You are absolutely right. He's a young athlete that simply wants to play ball that let his emotions get the best of him. It happens to everyone.
Sorry about BJ. Peace be upon him. Sorry, too, that we now are so thin at QB. Just not sure BJ was using good judgement. I'm guessing he would have won the job. I don't know how he could expect the coaches to guarantee him the job at this point. Then you would have had JC and NS pissed.

The Vols will return to the top but it wont happen overnight. I think CLK is doing it right. You cant build until clean and level the landscape.

Did you mean the coaching staff made their decision with the the best interests of Tennessee's 2010 season and beyound? I really think BJ would have best served the 2009 season. I'm sure many other folks feel that way.

Jobrando, I really do feel that way. I believe that Crompton would have (will) self destruct early in the season. I also think that BJ's #'s were better this spring, but not enough to really seal the deal. We'll never know how the whole thing transpired, but it was BJ's decision to move on. He feels that he made a good choice, so good luck to him.
I actually hope that BJ comes to Chattanooga for a year before moving on to another D1 school, likely Duke. It would be a huge step up for the Mocs QB situation, and it would give BJ game experience. There is actually very good competition in the SoCon, like Appalachian St and Georgia Southern, that would provide him with very valuable game experience.
I don't think we need to be concerned with a few players leaving under a new coaching staff who by the way are making players work. I would like to point out that there are other schools who are breaking the record in drafts and other issues..here is a breakdown:

There is actually very good competition in the SoCon, like Appalachian St and Georgia Southern, that would provide him with very valuable game experience.
