Flu 1, Ole Miss 0: Annual 'Meet the Rebels' canceled over flu fears

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Turns out there's one thing that can dampen all the enthusiasm around the Mississippi football team — the flu.

Officials have canceled "Meet the Rebels Day" this year over fear of flu exposure. Athletic director Pete Boone said coach Houston Nutt and the team's trainer felt it was "in the best interest of our football team" to cancel the annual event.

With dozens of cases of flu in the local school district, officials exercised what was described as "an abundance of caution" in a news release.

Officials previously announced an alteration in plans because of installation of new turf at the stadium.

When I was at the Orange and White game, there was a child sitting next to me. He was up and down, kicking me lightly on the shin and looking at me to see what I would do. Kids will be kids, so, I let that go. He sneezed, without covering his mouth and I got a quick shower. There are only a few things that make me lose my temper. Don't call me an s.o.b. and don't slap me(I'd rather get pile drived)and don't spit on me. I wasn't aware of this H1N1 or whatever it is called. If, I had known about it at the time, I sure would have said something to the dad. This flu is not done and it could eventually cause problems in athletics where you have so much contct. I hope this is not the case, but its a possibility. GO VOLS!!!

Considering what has happened to the Duke and Elon squads in practice, I'm thinking more than one game will be decided by flu this year. Thoughts?

Just dont see it,atleast I dont see it having any more effect than any other year. There are games every year that a couple of key players or even a star is either down with the flu or recovering from it.

Yeah don't let those players around people. Its not like they're gonna go to class at a university that has thousands and thousands of students.

Man you watch too much TV! Wide spread panic won't help. Get educated instead of indoctrinated. Let me guess... you went to public school.
