Oakland DT McAdoo picks Kentucky

MURFREESBORO - Ensworth coach Ricky Bowers calls Oakland High School senior defensive tackle Tim McAdoo the best defensive lineman he's seen play since former Pearl-Cohn standout John Henderson.

He's not alone in viewing McAdoo as an SEC-caliber talent.

McAdoo, a 6-foot-2, 330-pound defensive tackle committed to Kentucky recently, where he is being recruited as a defensive tackle.

"I talked with (Oakland) coach (Thomas) McDaniel about it," McAdoo said. "I decided its best to go ahead and commit."

0* with his only other offer being from Louisville. Still, Rivals calls this a soft commitment. If he has a good senior season, Tennessee might take him.

Hah!

I go to Oakland and I have yet to see him wear a kentucky hat, shirt, or anything. I heard him say that Tennessee would be one of his schools of choice, but he can't commit to us without an offer. So I say if we offer him, he'll be going to Knoxville.

Please, after going to Boonsday in Knoxville with my brother it made me very proud to live in KY. I actually saw a child in a diaper with an actual dog leach around him. I'm sure he's not good enough to play for the mighty Vols. The fence around the state of TN is still under construction I guess. Maybe you can offer a few more QB's out west so they pick Utah or San Diego or West, North, East State University over the Vols. Welcome aboard Mr. McAdoo.

must be that Chris Lofton and Scotty Hopson sized hole we had to make in the fence.

Congratulations on your sixth commitment: three 3*, one 2* and two 0*. I really hate it that you guys are taking all that talent away from us.

That coach is saying a mouthful by comparing him to Big John. IF he is that good, the coaches will be calling. We need some linemen!

And how many stars did Montori Hughes have? Crompton had 5*. He has panned out real well. You guys have to quit putting all your eggs into those Rivals stars. If you read the research on that it has very little reflection on how they will perform in college. Go Vols!

I'm glad you said that. Montori Hughes is proof that colleges don't do enough recruiting around here in Murfreesboro or even Rutherford County for that matter.

Did Montori go to this school?

No he went to Siegel High.

I live one mile from Siegel HS and Hughes was by far the best player on the field. There is so much politics involved with all those stars. I'm glad the coaches don't pay any attention to them.

Coach Brooks has really done it the right way. When he came in KY was at 65 scholarships due to the probation. Brooks and Joker Phillips have made a little off of taking 2* and 3* kids and making them SEC caliber kids. The leading tackler Wesley Woodyard was a 2* kid coming out of high school, but ended up all SEC and started last year for the Broncos. KY just doesn't have the tradition that TN does to be able to bring in the 4 and 5 star players. Winning takes care of those things. We've won 3 straight bowl games over Clemson, Florida State and East Carolina. Hopefully McAdoo will be one of those kids like Jeremy Jarmon who came from TN and was a steal. Jarmon went to the Redskins and will probably start as a rookie this year.

Some people are really whistling in the dark when they say the recruiting ratings don't mean anything. Sure,on rare occasions, some 2* and even 0* recruits can turn out to be fairly good players and some 5* players can bomb. But the last few years USC, Florida, Alabama and a few others have loaded up on 4* and 5* talent, while Miss. State, Vandy and Kentucky have loaded up on 2* and 3* talent. According to some of you guys, USC wouldn't have a chance against Miss. State due to taking all those 4* and 5* players. Dream on.
