Cobb dealing with back pain

Randall Cobb returned to Lexington on Wednesday evening after visiting a back specialist in Columbus, Ga., and the sophomore all-purpose threat said he's confident that he'll be ready for Kentucky's season opener on Sept. 5.

The former Alcoa High School star hasn't practiced this week and said that his back began flaring up earlier this summer. Kentucky coach Rich Brooks said that Cobb has been experiencing spasms and is hopeful that the problem can be alleviated with stretching and muscle relaxers.

"I know I've got to take this time off to let the injury take care of itself so it won't be a problem during the season," Cobb told the Lexington Herald-Leader. "I'm not concerned at all."

Brooks said there's no timetable for Cobb's return to full-contact practice.

I hope this condition doesn't keep Cobb from playing this year and displaying his amazing talent. I'm a Vol through and through but I can't help from wanting a local boy to suceed. He should have been a VOL anyway, I think Brooks offered playing time early or he might have been with us. Just hope it's temporary with him. Go VOLS!!
