KNOXVILLE -- As Gerald Jones limped off the Neyland Stadium turf toward the end of Saturday's University of Tennessee football scrimmage, the teammate in fellow junior Brandon Warren thought, "here we go again."
But the competitor in Warren knew UT would need a new No. 1 wide receiver to finish the day.
"The injury thing, I hate that," Warren said. "Those are my teammates, and we need all of them, but that's also an opportunity for somebody to step their game up and bring what they can bring to the table."

and you know this because?? you're a scout? you've been on the field with them? you're known worldwide for your excellent eye in football matters? I'm guessing you've never been on a football field, matter of fact i'm guessing that you were a cane's fane in the 90's mixed with a little FSU and now you "claim" to be a gator.
I can make these comments because they are based in reality and truth.
see how stupid that looks?

I Hate to see Jones out too, but to tell you the truth 30 catches last year would not put him at the top of any school. They are all unproven because of the poor staff we had last year. Hancock has been good since he was a freshman but with Fulmer and co. they only let him take baby steps. When we got real coaches on staff they knew he could play. They messed up Hancock years there at UT. Everybody is always mentioning Warren. They all have to step up. Hancock had 3 passes thrown to him last year and they were all bad but one. He was used for blocking. They played some people ahead of him that did not come close to him in the Spring or this fall dispite of the injuries. He was right behind Jones. He can't be a Willie Gault when he was not even in the game. Everybody is unproven even your QB's they are all the results of poor coaches.
lynbyrd99#1372317 writes:
To be honest with you bigorange 61 this team was already thin at wideout. WoW our top player had 30 catches. Crabtree had 30 in 1 games. Everybody was going to have to step up this year. Hancock not Willie Gault, you will never know if you didn't get a chance to be a part of the offense. Poor coaches, and last year was a joke for everybody.

We still have some great running backs. If the line will give them a crack, they can make big plays. You don't have to have Peyton Manning at QB, and some unproven receivers will do enough to get the job done. I've seen RB's support Darryl Dickey and Freshman Manning long enough for them to get their confidence up. Not time to give up yet. I'll be using my season tickets, not selling them like some folks, but that's a different story.

Willie Gault the gold standard for UT receivers! Willie was fast and had hands of stone. How about Cedric Wilson; tough with great hands.

Lynbrd, I don't disagree with what you posted. However, when you mention Crabtree, we need some perspective.
Texas Tech completed more passes (465) than Tennessee attempted (309). Two entirely different offenses. (Tech's was good LOL).
Tech completed 465 passes to Tennessee's 153, roughly 3 times as many completed. Crabtree's numbers were roughly 3 times what Jones were, except in one category.
Jone's average was 12.8 yards, while Crabtree's was 12.0 yards.
Just something to think about.

I agree with you just used someone for example, but you can check the stats of any sec school and we did not come close to that. We just had a terrible offense last year with second rate coaches who should have never been hired. They did not play the best people. I hope this year we will have better results. I just think we need to stop bragging about 3o catches. That is nothing. We need to get this offense prepared and lift all these guys up. We got to get the ball to these guys and see what they can do......
bigorange61 writes:
Amen. Let's hope the offensive line play improves, or we won't be much better.
