Stallings forgoes raise for sake of Vandy's trip

Vanderbilt men's basketball Coach Kevin Stallings paid for the Commodores' trip to Australia by declining a $100,000 raise that was contractually due to him this summer.

He didn't want any publicity. In fact, he wanted it kept quiet. But word eventually leaked.

"It's a little embarrassing," Stallings said.

I remember when the search for Buzz's replacement came up, Stallings was a name many favored. I'm glad the way things have worked out, though. He seems to have many of the same flaws and virtues as CBP as a coach, but little if any of the personality. Nice gesture on his part, though.

I'm sure the guys enjoyed the trip and it will probably help them get ready for the season. Didn't realize Vandy had so many of their guys back. Looks like there won't be much to separate them from us this season. I think the whole conference will step it up a notch this year. If UT does as well in the regular season as it did last, it will be more of an achievement than some on here will credit them for.
