Georgia tight end Bryce Ros is ending his football career because of a chronic foot condition.
Georgia director of sports medicine Ron Courson says Ros, a redshirt freshman from Kennesaw, Ga., suffers from chronic degenerative changes in his right big toe joint.
Ros suffered the injury as a junior at Kennesaw Mountain High School. He had corrective surgery but has continued to have problems.
Georgia coach Mark Richt said the school has asked the NCAA for a medical exemption to allow Ros to remain on scholarship.
Fields Has Surgery: Kentucky wide receiver E.J. Fields will have surgery to repair a foot injury and is out indefinitely.
Coach Rich Brooks says Fields has a torn ligament in his mid-foot and will have surgery Thursday.
The redshirt freshman from Frankfort, Ky., was expected to compete for playing time.
Several other Wildcats are also dealing with injuries.
Fullback John Conner is nursing a sprained ankle and offensive guard Jake Lanefski could return to practice this week following a knee injury.
Flu Bug Bites: Reserve running back Eric Smith remained out of practice a day after surrendering to Auburn police on an assault charge.
Tigers coach Gene Chizik has said Smith wouldn't suit up for Auburn until he had "paid a price."
The status of receiver Montez Billings also remained up in the air over an academic issue.
Backup quarterback Tyrik Rollison, meanwhile, missed practice with what Chizik described as a "touch" of the flu.
Chizik said that with cases of the flu spreading through area schools, he didn't want to risk Rollison passing it on to teammates.
3-D Experiment: ESPN says it will test its ability to televise football games in 3-D with a special screening of the early season showdown between No. 4 Southern Cal and No. 6 Ohio State at three theaters Sept. 12.

Thank you KNS for letting use know other SEC teams are having pre-season injury woes. You would think UT was the only team to have injury. But glad no off field problems.
