Kentucky's Fields out indefinitely

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky wide receiver E.J. Fields will have surgery to repair a foot injury and is out indefinitely.

Coach Rich Brooks says Fields has a torn ligament in his mid-foot and will have surgery on Thursday.

Fields, a redshirt freshman from Frankfort, Ky., was expected to compete for playing time in a crowded receivers group.

Several other Wildcats are also dealing with injuries. Fullback John Conner is nursing a sprained ankle and offensive guard Jake Lanefski could return to practice later this week following a knee injury.

Brooks said he liked what he saw during Saturday’s scrimmage, but there are plenty of things to work on before the season opener against Miami (Ohio) on Sept. 5.
