NASHVILLE — Producers wanted to give viewers of City Confidential a feel for Knoxville — its people, its sights and, importantly, its sound.
What’s more Knoxville, they reasoned, than the University of Tennessee? And what’s more UT than a few bars of “Rocky Top” on a Saturday afternoon in the fall?
A 12-second video clip that includes the iconic tune has landed the television network A&E in federal court. The network is accused of inserting “Rocky Top” into a true-crime television documentary set in Knoxville, even after the song’s owners said A&E could not do it.
