Los Angeles Sparks starting forward Candace Parker missed Thursday's game against visiting Phoenix because of undisclosed personal reasons.
A message left by the former University of Tennessee star on her Twitter page indicated that the absence was due to her child being sick. Her Tweet said: worse feeling n da world...wen ur kid is sick! u feel so guilty and helpless.... :(
Parker had 21 points and eight rebounds in a 75-63 victory Tuesday against Chicago.
Sparks co-owner Kathy Goodman said Parker would return to practice on Friday and that she would “definitely” play Sunday against Connecticut. Goodman said Parker asked the team not to disclose any details about her absence, but she said it had nothing to do with an injury.
Parker leads the WNBA with nine double-doubles this season.
She rejoined the team in July after giving birth to her first child in mid-May, and had started 18 of 19 games since her return.

I'd wager you don't have too many NBA players missing games like that. And where is Sheldon? He's not doing anything....

Being a mother myself, even if Sheldon was there I would have wanted to stay home with my child. When I first heard the reason she didn't play, I thought she stayed home for that. Then I thought about the times I stayed home/left work early because of a sick child I knew what she was going through. If a NBA player had a baby in May(and breast feeding) I doubt they would be playing at all this season!!!!!!!

The bonds of motherhood are stronger and more important than the bonds to fellow ('scuse me...Lady) basketball teams...and rightly so. Way to go Candace! You rock! God first, family second, team third...and so it is, as it should be!

Couldn't have said it better myself volfan. Candace is an AWESOME role model on and off the court.

Actually, I would say that the average male pro would have SELF first and all those other things about tenth or worse, if they are on the list at all. Good for you, Candace. Take care of the important things first and the rest will fall into their proper place. You have years ahead of you to play and the Sparks aren't going anywhere this year anyway.
