A new Tennessee dawn

All eyes are on head coach Lane Kiffin as he begins a new era of Vols football

It’s certainly a new era for UT football. In the cover photo illustration, new head coach Lane Kiffin stands before the new video board at newly renovated Neyland Stadium with a new season set to begin.

It’s certainly a new era for UT football. In the cover photo illustration, new head coach Lane Kiffin stands before the new video board at newly renovated Neyland Stadium with a new season set to begin.

Tennessee is trying to strike gold with another fresh start. UT has a storied past, to be sure, but it's one that in recent years hasn't been quite so glorious.

Haha and so modest... another great trait.

How do you think we'll do this year?

Aww c'mon Witch why downplay expectations? I don't really like predicting how many wins we'll have in a given season, but I think your total is about right. Although I hope that I never go into a game thinking that we can't win. All the signs DEFINITELY point to a bright future. And I also think we surprise some people. It seems a lot of the media don't have very high expectations for us (around .500 or worse). Psshaw!

Yeah I'm sure I'll be pulling for the Gamecocks. As for the second game, you're right. Boise State definitely seems to play a lot of easier teams. Although, if USC can lose to Stanford, then, you know. (I know it's unlikely, but still. Unpredictability is why college football rules.)

Trying to pace myself, too. After all, we have two full games before you guys. Should be a blast, though.

(haha... I tried to post this originally, and it said, "The word, C----" is not allowed here!" :P)

Hope the SEC shows up strong this weekend - both SC and UGA have tough non-conference games.

I have grown rather fond of Boise State over the past few years. When our search was underway I was hoping we would interview their coach - Chris Peterson. I watch them and wonder what he could do with top talent. That said, I'm 100% behind Kiffin and I am EXCITED that IT'S FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!!!

Ahh that's awesome. I like the Steelers and LOVE the VOLS lol. MTSU is okay, I guess, but my fandom for the Titans has died down as of late. I think the fans have turned me off. Not to mention that Terrible Towel disrespect that goes on down there. Ridiculous.

Humph! I filed a law suit against Budweiser. After a few Bud Lights I would wake up in bed with ugly, and somtimes fat, women. We settled out of court. I dropped the suit, they delivered several cases of Bud Light!

Honestly, judging by the different directions the two programs are headed, Vandy may deserve it! :)

Thanks for the heads-up. Knew about SC v. NC St. but did NOT know about Boise v. Oregon. That could be a real barn-burner.

Well, Boise can't really help the conference they play in right now, and most of the "big boys" are--or should be!--scared of them. They probably have trouble scheduling ranked opponents these days. They are definitely NOT a team anyone is going to schedule for a cinch win, but they still don't get enough respect for the perennial powers to gain anything by beating them. If they go unbeaten, I wouldn't think it was ridiculous if they DID get a BCS bid.

10-2 this year I could see happening. While I am an optimist myself, I would not bet the farm on a NC, let alone in perfect year in the SEC for '10.

I'm as big of an SEC and UT booster as anybody, but there are at least eight BCS spots available and only two can go to SEC teams. Why shouldn't Boise get a spot? Heck, throw an undefeated BYU--if it happens--in there too. I DO think a Boise or BYU would have to be undefeated to beat out a once-beaten team from one of the power conferences. We've already seen that the SEC can handle the best of the "power conferences". Why not give someone new a shot at the big time?
