Former University of Miami quarterback Cannon Smith, who left the Hurricanes last week and attended a University of Memphis football scrimmage last Thursday, will throw his next pass for his hometown team.
Smith is transferring to Memphis, a move confirmed Sunday night by his father, Fred Smith, FedEx founder and CEO. A former Christian Brothers High School and Olive Branch quarterback, Smith will sit out this season per NCAA guidelines and have three years of eligibility remaining.

Miami is sinking mainly due to the Spartan approach their head coach takes with his football players. I have a business associate who lives in Pembroke Pines, FL. and is a UM graduate. The Miami image has long been (too long) glamour, money, South Beach, attitude and a hang-on thug image. Coach S. has booted more than he's kept, according to my associate, mainly due to the influence from non-students(gang banger infiltrators) who continue to poison his camp from the outside. This is Coach S's last year, and he's settled on his QB. The Smith kid is smart to get out now.
As a matter of simple politeness, lay off the personal insults of the kid. We don't exactly have an AA in our QB camp, nor one in the cross hairs...we have average now, at best. He chose Memphis, so be it.

Jucos, transfers I don't care how Tommy West gets the talent so long as it's there. I rarely hear anyone complaining when a Brandon Warren type transfer player comes to UT.
