NASHVILLE — The quarterback fight is over at Vanderbilt with coach Bobby Johnson announcing Monday that his starter is redshirt sophomore Larry Smith.

He is the quarterback who started the Commodores’ Music City Bowl win last December. Smith is a former Alabama Mr. Football who led his high school team to a state title. He beat out senior Mackenzi Adams and redshirt junior Jared Funk.

The Commodores open the season Saturday night at home against Western Carolina, the first of 12 straight games.
