Tennessee receivers coach Frank Wilson will join LSU's coaching staff as running backs coach and recruiting coordinator, a source close to the hiring told the News Sentinel.
Until his arrival at Tennessee, Wilson had spent his coaching career in Louisiana and Mississippi.
He joined Lane Kiffin's UT staff as wide receivers coach in January, less than three weeks after being named running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at fellow Southeastern Conference program Mississippi State.
His most recent stops were at Southern Mississippi as running back coach and recruiting coordinator in 2008, and at Ole Miss under head coach Ed Orgeron as running backs and special teams assistant from 2005-07.
Wilson came to Ole Miss after serving one year as Director of Athletics for the New Orleans Public School System. He served 3 1/2 seasons as head football coach and offensive coordinator at O. Perry Walker High School and three years as an assistant coach at Edna Karr High School, both in New Orleans.
Wilson was a student assistant at his alma mater, Nicholls State University. He was a three-year letterman in football at Nicholls State.

Well I thought as much. Going for $$$ and home. I say good luck, even though LSU may be looking for a new coach in a couple of years.

We are about to see how good this staff is at recruiting.

Who do we get to fill the gap - Trooper? No hard feelings?

To be expected, I guess...word around town is that Gran may be headed to FSU...now that really hurts...

Here is to all the Vol fans celebrating that Charlie Strong may be leaving UF :)
Dooley_Wears_Orange writes:
I'd be willing to bet this staff is already "recruiting" new assistants - not that they aren't disappointed in the news, but you've gotta strike while the iron is hot!
coalvol writes:
I understand these coaches wanting to leave for a better job....but after one year sort of baffles me. He may end up regretting this if Miles gets canned.
johnlg00#206211 writes:
Surely you would agree that Strong leaving UF, if he does, would be a bigger loss than Wilson leaving UT! However, I surely don't want to lose Gran also, not this year at least.

Go join the cheaters and be on probation; yeah that makes sense. And don't forget to spike the ball with no time left; yeah that makes sense.

Third. Slowness prevails.
V_O_L_S_GO_VOLS_GO writes:
This doesn't really bother us. He's a good coach, but technically in terms of league, it's a lateral move, and he's just getting more $$. If we really thought he was irreplaceable, UT could have afforded to keep him and would have done so. Miles is gonna be gone in 2 years, 3 at most, because he's NOT a good head football coach, but rather the luckiest SOB I've ever seen. (I've never seen so many hail mary's and super low-percentage trick plays be successful.)
V_O_L_S_GO_VOLS_GO writes:
You're probably right.
UT probably saw this coming
Dooley_Wears_Orange writes:
I agree, one year doesn't seem like they gave the program much of a chance to be their home, it seems as if it was used as more of a launching pad . . . I hope the rumors about Gran aren't true, but if they are I know this staff will make the necessary adjustments. Go Vols!
volzzz1 writes:
Not from me. I would love to see Trooper on this staff again!

I wonder how many recruits he'll bring with him?
GBO!
cumberlandVOL writes:
Lateral moves aren't cool with me. Though honestly, if it were me, i'd take double the money to do the same job. I guess tennessee has finally joined the ranks of college football programs with a mercenary coaching staff. I guess you have to take the good with the bad in those situations.
Dooley_Wears_Orange writes:
I would too. He gets the players fired up (like Coach O) and his excitement is contagious!
geraldodell#1377039 writes:
I wish him well as he did a very good job for us; however, I dont know about the longevity of the current head coach as LSU will not put up with the type of finishes he has had over the past 3 years. I would be concerned if I were Coach Wilson over how long Coach Miles will be there.
VOLinJAX writes:
Job jumper...Miles and staff(yes you Chief) is gone after next year because of losses to teams like the Vols next Oct 2nd!!
golfin_blondie writes:
Good luck Coach Wilson. I wish you the best...just not against the Vols.....lol. I too think TN saw this coming and I am sure Kiffin and staff already has a least a couple lined up and I am sure only the best canidate will be selected....

He'll take several good ones he was recruiting and we need. Why us? Why not pilage Urban Crier's staff? He got away with being a butt when Drayton left there and gets away with not sharing his big bucks. He deserves to have his staff stripped. I maintain he sucks and depends on his staff while he keeps all the $$$$ for himself. If we lose Gran for FL recruiting and Wilson for LA recruiting, these are big hits. I also maintain opposing schools are as much about damaging us has anything else. They are Sooooo afraid of the Kiffin group.

Could someone give me the real lowdown on Trooper Taylor? I know he is highly visible, but is he a coach or a cheerleader? Does he recruit big and coach well or is he just the guy that always gets the camera pointed on him? It occurs to me as I'm typing this that I could be asking the same questions about Lane Kiffin. Time will tell about Layne, but Taylor has moved quite a bit and I know Chavis wasn't a fan. Just wondering if he is sizzle or steak.

Finally, a coaching staff where our assistants are "wanted" by other schools. This is a far cry from our previous coaching staff.
licknpromise777#651578 writes:
WR coaches are pretty easy to come by; and yes I would go after trooper in a heartbeat..Losing Gran would be a blow..With what he makes and the respect he's gotten why would he leave for anything but a HC position
khelton657 writes:
Trooper has not shown himself to be D-1 head coach material. He has moved from job to job w/ no increase in responsibilites..ala whatsisname at Georgia.
TommyJack writes:
That's like asking about Ford vs. Chevy. Personally, I think TT is a so-so coach and probably above average recruiter. (and a great self promoter) I'm sure all would agree.
licknpromise777#651578 writes:
Coaching wise Trooper is average but players love him and he seems to get 110% effort from his squad..He's a very capable recruiter

These are the consequenses of putting together the best assistant coaching staff in the country... everyone sees that we are so much better than the 7-5 actually shows... these coaches have done an extrodinary job with a patchwork group of players and the last half of the season proves it... Lane Kiffin will have to post a guard at his office door to fight off the assistants from other schools trying to get in for an interview.. guarantee that we are in the top 5 schools in the nation that is on the rise... 2 years and we will be in the thick of the championship race... Who could be surprised about this move? It seems he will go anywhere the wind blows and this time it was blowing him home-easy decision.
One of the things that really concerns me about CLK's coaching group is that there isn't any TRUE allegiance to UT but I still like the direction of the program.
Go Vols!
DennisVols writes:
Don’t expect Trooper to be coming to UT. He was considered the 1st time and he either didn’t fit what Kiffin wanted or he wasn’t interested in coming back. My gut feeling is that bridge has been burned.
I would expect Kiffin to make another high profile pick with NFL experience. Not sure who but after Kiffin’s first year I don’t expect anything less than a cannonball splash once he makes up his mind. You know “draws attention to the program”.
If you have high quality coaches on your staff there is always going to be other teams trying to get them away from you. Outside of David C. how many others from Fulmer’s staff where in high demand? Gardner got lured away mainly to stop the bleeding of GA high school players coming to UT but other than that I really don’t recall such a high demand for this coaching staff.
The one thing I have learned from this year is expect Kiffin to make the right decision. He did in putting the staff together, he did in sticking with Crompton and he did in player personnel decisions. It shocked us at times, we questioned some of them but in the end this team improved at every phase of the game on and off the field.
Keeping it Real
Go Vols!!!

I know that Wilson is from that area, but the hat will not be in Baton Rouge for long, the heat is already on. 8-4, 9-3 will not get it done with the talent that has been assembled there.

Can't blame him for wanting to go home. Kiffin will find a fantastic replacement for Wilson.

Not unexpected. This staff will change regularly because of the nature of mercenary cfb.UT is Merely a reflection of the changing landscape of the BUSINESS of college athletics.Get used to it it's going to continue because of the $$$ involved. By the way, CTT won't be back-CLK has made an obvious break with the past.

Well, we have seen that money is not an object for us at Tennessee. We should "NEVER" lose a coach for more money. If Coach Kiffin wants to keep this great staff together, Mr. Booster Haslan can come up with some more money. Going to be O.C. or D.C. is different. After a while recruiting will be affective by coaches going after kids and that coach leaving after a year or so. (Hope NOT)

Witch Doctor you are right.
This is a great staff, they not only recognize great paying talent but they all come from very successful backgrounds. They are well aware of upcoming coaching talent. Anyone that has worked in a competitive field has witnessed this type of movement. My guess is that Lane already has many Assistants in his sights. But then VICailf is a known liar.
