The news from the New York Times that the NCAA is looking at how Tennessee's Orange Pride group is used in recruiting has the college sports blogosphere amped like no sports drink ever invented.
Rival fans see payback, Vol fans say what now and then there's just the ones hoping for the smell of salacious.
A lot of attention is being focused on Tennessee co-ed Lacey Pearl Earps of Murfreesboro, a member of the Orange Pride whose name started surfacing on sports forums during the recruitment of UT football player Bryce Brown. The spotlight may be on Earps just from having a bigger footprint online than other members of the Orange Pride.
Bleacher Report says: "It's not really clear just how serious these allegations are right now, but the repeated recruiting violations at Tennessee are becoming a disturbing trend."
Also, an Alabama fan blogger at "The Fan Attic" notes: "Lane’s 'fast start' may suffer a set back of pretty serious proportions if the NCAA decides to go all “Alabama” on them."
Michael Silence has two roundups of what bloggers are saying about the NCAA looking into the University of Tennessee.
Read his first blog post at "The blog buzz on the NCAA's probe of UT" and his second, "Hostessgate."

Interesting how political this seems. One month before signing day.

I agree. Saban is obsessed with himself and will do anything to cripple his competiton. Also, Bama is well funded through their book sale program. What a huge deal that was basically overlooked by NCAA. Hey, do you need that $200 accounting book? Buy a new one from me for $100! I got a buy books for free card.

Every school uses Hostesses, some more than others. I work with several ex vols and they all said FLA. ST. was the worst (or best) and that UT was middle of the road. Bottom line is all of schools use them. This stinks of Meyer and Slive,as long as the UT didn't pay for the students to attend the high school game, then no rules broken. UT should sue the NCAA for charactor defamation if they are in any way casting UT in a bad light to these recruits. I heard that at least one of the Hostesses that visited the game was from that area of South Carolina. These possible star athletes have groupies that follow them similar the pro's. Whatever! I just hope the NationalCommunistsAgainstAthletes doesn't do real damage to our recruiting efforts.Sounds like Willis's dad pretty much told them to FU.GO VOLS!

Just like that delusion of a Subpoena the idiotic Tide fat cats tried to serve Fulmer with at every SEC meeting for two years? Is that the delusion you're speaking of?

This is not good news and it is not going away anytime soon. Does anyone think the coaches leaving had any thing to do with this? Hopefully the Four letter word network will be busy with Tiger stuff. Go Vols and Go CLK!

The timing is curious, huh?

What is really funny is a Tide fan joining in on ANY conversation regarding violations. Remember Tide, you're one phone call away from the needle. Mwahahahahaha

I have a relative that did the same thing at Clemson. They went all over the place with the team, and traveled to bowl games, etc. The whole thing sounds like a witch hunt to me. I just hope CLK keeps his mouth shut and lets Hamilton do the talking. As for Slive, here's hoping he has the squirts out of both ends through groundhog day.

And so...based on "internet blog buzz"-which as we all know is TOTALLY reliable and 100% accurate, we're going to post facebooky pictures of one smiling hostess, imply that she's at the "center" of the whole thing, call it "news", and call it a day. That'll teach the New York Times to scoop the KNS!
Perhaps KNS could spend less time trolling blogs (and being trolls to their own articles) and do some real investigation of their own?
Major_Magilicutty writes:
I agree...and plastering that girls photo all over the website, insinuating that she is the center of some huge scandal (which for all we know could be a completely innocuous showing of fanhood), is disgraceful.
KNS should be ashamed of themselves.

ESPN led the top of the hour of First Take with the "story" about a NCAA investigation of possible recruiting violations based on a NY Times investigative story about student hostesses. You know they are biased because they didn't show the photo of Lacey Earps knowing doing so would get another 3 commitments for the Vols. This will be a lot of blowing smoke & claiming there must be fire by the media & certain rival schools. The trolls will be on this rumor like stink on well you know. Let the media circus begin.

im a student here at UT... i know this girl and know several other girls that do this. i can tell you for a fact that these girls are not groupies for the football players. they are there to make sure that the recruit feels welcome at the university, not do something inappropriate like many of you are suggesting. from the words of a college student... grow up and get a life

A quick and necessary reminder for you: Bama has only beaten the Vols six times since 1993.
FWBVol writes:
I can't believe some people are trying to blame Phillip Fulmer's involvement in testifying against Alabama for all of this. No, Fulmer didn't like Bama. But under SEC rules he was bound to report any violations by another school.
From my understanding, there were other SEC coaches that testified against the Crimson Tide, but Fulmer's testimony, which was supposed to be sealed, was the only one released. If Alabama hadn't cheated it would not have been found guilty of anything.
I hope UT hasn't done anything wrong. And while I support Lane Kiffin, but if UT is guilty of a major violation that he had knowledge of I think he needs to go.
There's a right way and wrong way to build a successful program, and with our tradition and facilities we should never have to stoop to doing things the wrong way.
VolQB writes:
And to think i felt sorry for Bama a few years ago! Not just one year but for multiple bama low-life years. I am glad our hate for each other is back.

I cannot believe they posted her photograph and information based on blog buzz. Talk about the worst form of character assassination for a girl who probably gets paid minimum wage, all in an effort to help UT. So, because you're a student employee and give tours on campus, you become a public figure? No way. I hope she gets a good attorney and sues them for libel.

Oh, come on. This is the type venom that keeps bad blood. Alabama has nothing to do with this. Have you forgotten what Fulmer did a few years back trying to hurt Alabama? This is ridiculous. Whatever is going on, blame your own program, not ours. Every time I try to discourage the annomosity between the schools, someone like you posts something like this. I think some people thrive on this junk.

"Kiff" is gonna bring the Vols down faster than a lead ballon at this rate.He asked for special attention and he is getting it!I can't figure out why a school like UT didn't get a real Coach instead of this idiot that has never broght anything but trouble to any place he's been which wasn't very many to start with.We got to get a real Coach in place and we are gonna be a decade behind just trying to climb out of the hole that this clown has put us in!

once again we see Kiffin does not have a clue about right and wrong and keeping his mouth shut. Win games and do the right thing. All of this conspiracy junk sounds like UK basketball fans who think every ref is trying to cheat them and no call every goes there way even tho they get most of the calls in their favor. The key is once again are we going to learn from stupidity or continue to be a laughing stock nationally on what is Kiffin doing now.

what exactly goes through the head of someone wanting to sell their values and morals just to be popular on campus. We can only hope this is not as bad as the Colorado scandal a few years back.
